Millicent Watts-Cohen is on a mission. When she promised her elderly best friend that she’d reunite her with the woman she fell in love with nearly eighty years ago, she never imagined that would mean traveling from D.C. to Key West with three tablespoons of Mrs. Nash’s remains in her backpack. But Millie’s determined to give her friend a symbolic happily-ever-after, before it’s (really) too late—and hopefully reassure herself of love’s lasting power in the process. She just didn’t expect to have a living travel companion.

Story
Daphne Bell believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she’d spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend. Daphne has been receiving the numbered papers for over twenty years, always wondering when there might be one without an expiration. Finally, the night of a blind date at her favorite Los Angeles restaurant, there’s only a name: Jake.

Publisher's summary
"The perfect alchemy of romance, humor and quirky originality."—Sophie Cousens, New York Times bestselling author of This Time Next Year and The Good Part
"A sincere and sincerely funny romance."—Alix E. Harrow, New York Times bestselling author of Starling House
A clever con woman must convince a skeptical, sexy farmer of his property's resident real-life ghost if she's to save them all from a fate worse than death, in this delightful new novel from the author of Mrs. Nash's Ashes.
Fake spirit medium Gretchen Acorn is happy to help when her best (read: wealthiest) client hires her to investigate the unexplained phenomena preventing the sale of her bridge partner’s struggling goat farm. Gretchen may be a fraud, but she'd like to think she’s a beneficent one. So if "cleansing" the property will help a nice old man finally retire and put some much-needed cash in her pockets at the same time, who's she to say no?
Of course, it turns out said bridge partner isn't the kindly AARP member Gretchen imagined—Charlie Waybill is young, hot as hell, and extremely unconvinced that Gretchen can communicate with the dead. (Which, fair.) Except, to her surprise, Gretchen finds herself face-to-face with Everett: the very real, very chatty ghost that’s been wreaking havoc during every open house. And he wants her to help ensure Charlie avoids the same family curse that's had Everett haunting Gilded Creek since the 1920s.
Now, Gretchen has one month to convince Charlie he can’t sell the property. Unfortunately, hard work and honesty seem to be the way to win over the stubborn farmer—not exactly Gretchen's strengths. But trust isn’t the only thing growing between them, and the risk of losing Charlie to the spirit realm looms over Gretchen almost as annoyingly as Everett himself. To save the goat farm, its friendly phantom, and the man she's beginning to love, Gretchen will need to pull off the greatest con of her life: being fully, genuinely herself.
“Sarah Adler nails the ultimate rom-com alchemy.”—Carley Fortune, New York Times bestselling author of Every Summer After and Meet Me at the Lake
Critic reviews
"Hilarious! This is exactly the kind of rom com I love to read—the perfect alchemy of romance, humor and quirky originality. Gretchen is now one of my favorite heroines. This book is going to be huge."—Sophie Cousens, New York Times bestselling author of This Time Next Year and The Good Part
"Happy Medium is a sincere and sincerely funny romance populated by a higher-than-average number of goats and ghosts. I stayed up late to finish it, and fell asleep smiling."—Alix E. Harrow, New York Times bestselling author of Starling House
"Ridiculously charming and irresistible. Come for the tenderhearted scam-artist "medium" who can actually see ghosts, and the broody, gorgeous farmer who begins as a mark and slowly becomes the love Gretchen Acorn never knew she needed—and stay for the roguishly charming Prohibition-era ghost with a weakness for modern TV (and baby goats!). Seriously, this delightful slow-burn romance has it all. Sizzling chemistry, phenomenal banter, a voice that's both hilarious and vulnerable, and a plot to die for."—Lana Harper, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of In Charm's Way

Story
Ellie Greco wishes she weren’t stuck in Milborough. For a few brief, shining years, she escaped her hometown to pursue her dream career—designing beautiful, elaborate costumes for theater—until her father's death five years ago called her home to run the family's decades-old deli. Yes, she loves the place, but she’d always thought she was meant for more exciting things than stocking the right tinned fish. But when Ellie hears that a local landlord is planning to rent to Mangia, the glitzy gourmet food department store, the very existence of Greco’s Deli is suddenly in jeopardy.

She’s just about at the end of her rope when she stumbles across a rare edition of a book from the 1960s at the local flea market. Deciding it’s a sign of her luck turning, she takes it home with her—only to be shocked when her cranky hermit of a neighbor swoops in and offers to buy it for an exorbitant price.

Luke Edgewood isn’t a romantic. Or, at least, he’s always felt certain things like rom-coms were invented as punishment for average guys. Besides, he’s always preferred to be a behind-the-scenes guy who lives a quiet life being a good friend, neighbor, and brother. So when he travels to the island of Skymar to work a few months on restoring abandoned buildings, he never expects to find himself directly in the middle of a romantic, trope-filled story.

Ghost meets goat farm!
Mrs. Nash’s Ashes wasn’t a fluke: Sarah Adler can write! This book was smart and thoughtful, interesting and funny, touching and romantic. Everett was a hoot, and the Ghost meets goat farm premise was unique and fun. Narrator was terrific too.

A bit slow
Really enjoyed MNA - the characters felt well developed and the road trip added plot momentum. Was happy to give HM a shot despite the premise seeming a bit of a stretch. The paranormal relationship in HM had the better chemistry/banter than the human relationship, which was distracting, and the plot dragged in parts. The audio performance was good!

Needing to be on a goat farm asap
It was cute, it was romantic, it was sad, and everything in between. Don’t ask me why a book about a haunted goat farm was one of my favorite reads of the year, but it was. The character development is pretty slay for a romance book, and I found myself genuinely enjoying every one of the characters mentioned and hoping for the best outcome for each one of them. Also, there was little to no miscommunication with the main characters, so that immediately makes it top notch for me. 10/10, would recommend.

Boring, cyclical
Nothing really happens and it is kindof boring. The story behind the story is more interesting than the book itself.
