Carol Dweck’s multi-million-copy bestseller Mindset transformed our view of individual potential, coining the terms “fixed” and “growth” mindset: in a “fixed” mindset, talent and intelligence are viewed as predetermined traits, while in a “growth” mindset, talent and intelligence can be nurtured. In Cultures of Growth, Dweck’s protégé, Mary Murphy, a social psychologist at both Stanford and Indiana University, shows that mindset transcends individuals.

But are these really our only choices?

Change comes most readily when you understand what's standing between you and success and tailor your solution to that roadblock. If you want to work out more but find exercise difficult and boring, downloading a goal-setting app probably won't help. But what if, instead, you transformed your workouts so they became a source of pleasure instead of a chore? Turning an uphill battle into a downhill one is the key to success.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

We used to think of failure as the opposite of success. Now, we’re often torn between two “failure cultures”: one that says to avoid failure at all costs, the other that says fail fast, fail often. The trouble is that both approaches lack the crucial distinctions to help us separate good failure from bad. As a result, we miss the opportunity to fail well.

Our lives are filled with repetitive tasks meant to keep us on track—what we come to know as habits. Over time, these routines (for example, brushing your teeth or putting on your right sock first) tend to be performed automatically. But when we’re more mindful about these actions—when we focus on the precise way they are performed—they can instead become rituals. Shifting from a “habitual” mindset to a “ritual” mindset can convert ordinary acts from black and white to technicolor.

An inspiring book toward living a meaningful life
I've been a fan of Guy's since his first book The Macintosh Way. Guy's done many good things in his life and he has shared practical tips for people starting companies, building movements and more. In this latest and most personal book, guy is sharing life lessons for younger people entering the workforce (Gen Z) giving practical advice on developing a growth mind set, how to develop resilience (grit!) and more. Guy pulls lessons from his own life and career and also shares lessons from remarkable people he's interviewed for his podcast. I think this book deserves a place on every college grad's bookshelf. It's educational and inspiring without ever being preachy. Guy has said that his podcast is the best work he's done and this is a great distillation of the podcast. It's all delivered with the irreverent humor that Guy is known for. I highly recommend this book. I just wish Guy had narrated more of it.

Excellent and insightful. Great to get your imagination going of what you can achieve.
“Think Remarkable" by Guy Kawasaki stands as an exceptional and insightful exploration into the dynamics of personal and professional excellence. Kawasaki, known for his engaging and accessible writing style, presents a treasure of wisdom that resonates across all ages. His book seamlessly blends practical advice with inspiring examples, making it not just an enjoyable read but a compelling guide for anyone aspiring to make a significant impact in their personal and professional life.
The genius of Kawasaki's work lies in its universality. It's rare to find a book that appeals to a wide range of readers, from young adults at the onset of their careers to seasoned professionals looking for renewed inspiration and guidance. Kawasaki's insights are drawn from a rich career, experiences, offering lessons that are at once timeless and highly relevant in today's fast-paced world.
In my point of view, what sets this book apart is its potential as a tool in mentorship programs. Mentors seeking to guide their mentees towards paths of exceptional achievement will find "Think Remarkable" a valuable resource. It encourages a mindset of innovation, perseverance, and integrity, underlined by Kawasaki's own experiences and those of others who have achieved remarkable achievements.
In summary, "Think Remarkable" is more than just a book; it's a catalyst for transformation. Guy Kawasaki's ability to distill ideas into relatable and actionable insights makes this book a must-read for anyone striving to leave a mark in their personal and professional life. In addition to inspire us on our path to make a difference in the works or whether you're a mentor or a mentee, this book will undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration and a guide on the journey to being truly remarkable.
