Publisher's summary
Cole Balek is a liar.
Okay, not really. He just makes you think he’s sawing someone in half or that he’s trapped in a trunk. All Cole wants is to continue the love of magic that he and his late father shared by becoming the best tween magician in the Las Vegas area.
But when Cole and his mother get a mysterious note from a rare book collector, he’s forced to search among his father’s belongings for A Lesson in Magick, an old book of spells connected to an ancient group of magickers. What he finds instead are a series of coded clues his dad left for him - clues that send Cole and his best friends Ethan and Sanchez on a wild scavenger hunt throughout Las Vegas, in search of A Lesson in Magick. Cole must use every hack and magic trick he’s got, because he knows that if the book falls into the wrong hands, disaster will strike.
As danger mounts, who can this clever, funny, and determined group of friends really trust in a world filled with professional magicians, strange professors, and scary Elvis impersonators?

Story
It’s two months before Amelia’s big audition for the Mystwick School of Musicraft. If she gets in, she will learn to spin music into powerful magic - but her Gran has one last-ditch plan to persuade her out of it: sports camp. A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. By the end of day one, she’s puked her guts out in track, gotten a black eye in no-contact flag football, and firmly established herself as the Least Valuable Player at camp.

But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? They have always scared him in the past - the Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now 15-year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger's apprentice. What he doesn't yet realize is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

Story
Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit into her life. She’s skipped multiple grades and doesn’t really connect with the older kids at school, but she’s not comfortable with her family, either. The reason? Sophie’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. No one knows her secret - at least, that’s what she thinks.... But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone. He’s a Telepath too, and it turns out the reason she has never felt at home is that, well...she isn’t. Fitz opens Sophie’s eyes to a shocking truth....

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Story
When Tom is invited to the reading of a will of a great-uncle he’s never heard of, there’s no way to know what to expect. But on the long list of possible things to inherit, a travelling carnival ghost train is the very last on the list. To get his full $10 million inheritance, all Tom has to do is run the antique ride until his 18th birthday. Easy. Except for a strange caped-creep he’s never met, who’s trying to con him out of the money...and the actual ghosts and ghouls who call the ride home.

Kay’s life is pretty boring. She goes to school, spends quiet evenings at home with her foster mom, and has the occasional brush with mischief thanks to her best and only friend Will. But everything is about to change. One night, Kay tags along on another one of Will’s adventures, and they both end up recruited by a talking fox to become Netherjacks, protectors of all the worlds. Classy, fun adventure w/o smut
This was a lot of fun. I loved the intellectual and adventurous tone. The story is mainly about three friends, 2 male, 1 female who solve a mystery and evade numerous villains including "Smellvis". Take note Audible, this proves you dont need the extreme smut & alternative sexual scenes for an interesting story that is engaging for all ages. For example, there is a part about Dolly Parton impersonators who are described with big blonde hair and glitter rather than other body parts kids dont need to focus on. I also like there is a family focus, the bonds are obvious, poignant but not sappy. Much appreciated, bravo!

An epic scavenger hunt across Las Vegas
Cole and his mother are living in Las Vegas, trying to make it through life and heal from the death of his father. One day, Cole's mother gets a letter from a rare bookseller who is interested in a book that his father owned. When Cole begins going through his father's things to find the book, he doesn't find the book. What he finds instead is a clue. This clue starts Cole and his friends on a scavenger hunt that has them traveling back and forth across the city of Las Vegas in the hopes of finding where his father hid the book.
Unfortunately, the scavenger hunt is not without its dangers. Very quickly, Cole notices that he's being followed, and an early run-in with several Elvis impersonators shakes up Cole and impresses upon him the true level of danger involved in this hunt. Not only that, but with everything happening, Cole is having trouble figuring out who he can trust.
This was such a fun listen! The clues that Cole was following really illustrated the depth of relationship he had with his father and how much fun they had working on illusions to perform. The number of misdirections had my poor brain spinning at times, but it was still really fun to listen to Cole work through all the clues. If you like mysteries or scavenger hunts, I definitely encourage you to listen to this audiobook.

Elvis and Dolly's
Love the concept that Las Vegas is the magic capital of the US - I think I hit my forehead with a "doh" because why didn't I think of that before!! It's like the baby cousin of Hogwarts but no witches or warlocks. And underneath the mystery and comical friends (they may grow up to be in "The Hangover" yet...) there are heartwarming father-son moments. I will never look at Elvis impersonators the same way again, giggle!!
I forgot that Josh Gad was the celebrity narrator - kudos on his delivery.

Fantastic Mystery/Adventure!
Ok, so Josh Gad is the PERFECT voice for this part. No, he doesn't sound 12, but his inflections and overall read will absolutely get you in that headspace. The story is wild and funny, like a quest but leaving you wondering who is a good guy and who is a bad guy and who is somewhere in the middle. The supporting cast are also great--I'd love a standalone Sanchez story! Great fun for kids and families.
