A new mess. A new mystery. It’s up to Molly the maid to uncover the truth, no matter how dirty, in this standalone novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Maid, a Good Morning America Book Club pick.

“Polished to perfection!”—Shari Lapena, author of Everyone Here Is Lying

“Lives up to the hype . . . both a delightful whodunit and a pointed social commentary.”—The Washington Post

NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW EDITORS’ CHOICE • A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: PopSugar, Harper’s Bazaar, Chicago Public Library, CrimeReads, Bookreporter

Molly Gray is not like anyone else. With her flair for cleaning and proper etiquette, she has risen through the ranks of the glorious five-star Regency Grand Hotel to become the esteemed Head Maid. But just as her life reaches a pinnacle state of perfection, her world is turned upside down when J. D. Grimthorpe, the world-renowned mystery author, drops dead—very dead—on the hotel’s tearoom floor.

When Detective Stark, Molly’s old foe, investigates the author’s unexpected demise, it becomes clear that this death was murder most foul. Suspects abound, and everyone wants to know: Who killed J. D. Grimthorpe? Was it Lily, the new Maid-in-Training? Or was it Serena, the author’s secretary? Could Mr. Preston, the hotel’s beloved doorman, be hiding something? And is Molly really as innocent as she seems?

As the high-profile death threatens the hotel’s pristine reputation, Molly knows she alone holds the key to unlocking the killer’s identity. But that key is buried deep in her past, as long ago, she knew J. D. Grimthorpe. Molly begins to comb her memory for clues, revisiting her childhood and the mysterious Grimthorpe mansion where she and her dearly departed Gran once worked side by side. With the entire hotel under investigation, Molly must solve the mystery posthaste. Because if there’s one thing she knows for sure, it’s that secrets don’t stay buried forever.

Editorial Review

Golly Miss Molly
What would the world of mysteries and thrillers be without Molly Gray? The Maid with the mostest, so much so that she’s now Head Maid. Nita Prose takes us a little back in time and lets us in on some family secrets Molly’s loving Gran took with her to the grave. We also learn what put Molly on the path of her beloved vocation. But now a famous author has dropped dead in the hotel’s tearoom and everyone’s a suspect. Molly knows something others don’t know—the dead man. Lauren Ambrose once again delivers Molly to us in all of her empathy and charm and crisp enunciation. I enjoyed this audiobook so much that I worked out longer at the gym. That’s true love. —Yvonne D., Audible Editor

Well worth the wait

This book, as was its predecessor, is full of rich, wonderful characters that inhabit a beautifully detailed world all their own. They are funny and poignant and a genuine pleasure to follow. I hope Nita Prose has many more stories to share with us. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Liked The Maid much more

It was a decent listen but did jot grab me like The Maid did. I enjoyed the parts of Mollys past with her grandmother. The epilogue was my favorite part. Narration was ok. It’s a light mystery read; good for anyone looking for something on the lighter side.

Molly strikes again

Love the character. Molly is so refreshingly unpretentious. Story line could have been stronger but certainly enjoyable. Narrator is excellent. Looking forward to the next adventure with Molly.

Loved the performance!

This was a great sequel to the first Maid book, which I loved. I appreciated Stark’s dynamic character and Molly’s loyalty to be herself from day one. The backstory woven throughout was interesting to read and added to the many plot twists. It’s a good clean mystery read.
