Publisher's summary
A traveling librarian ventures into the mining towns of Kentucky on horseback and learns to trust the One who truly pens her story in this powerful novel from the best-selling author of A Silken Thread.
During the Great Depression, city-dweller Addie Cowherd dreams of becoming a novelist and offering listeners the escape that books had given her during her tragic childhood. When her father loses his job, she is forced to take the only employment she can find delivering books on horseback to poor coal-mining families in the hills of Kentucky.
But turning a new page will be nearly impossible in Boone's Hollow, where residents are steeped in superstitions and deeply suspicious of outsiders. Even local Emmett Tharp feels the sting of rejection after returning to the tiny mountain hamlet as the first in his family to graduate college. And as the crippled economy leaves many men jobless, he fears his degree wont be worth much in a place where most men either work the coal mine or run moonshine.
As Addie also struggles to find her place, shell unearth the truth about a decades-old rivalry. But when someone sets out to sabotage the towns library program, will the culprit chase Addie away or straight into the arms of the only person who can help her put a broken community back together?

It’s 1927, and the National Park Service is in its youth when Margie, an avid naturalist, lands a coveted position alongside the park rangers living and working in the unrivaled splendor of Mount Rainier’s long shadow. But Chief Ranger Ford Brayden is still haunted by his father’s death on the mountain, and the ranger takes his work managing the park and its crowd of visitors seriously. Story
Dr. Emilie Getz and Jonas Fielding are as different as two people - of the same age, with the same faith, living in the same small Pennsylvania town - could possibly be. She's a first-class neatnik; he's a world-class slob. She's into saving historical relics; he's into saving souls. But perhaps opposites do attract. For when this historian and this land developer meet, sparks fly. And despite the rather inauspicious beginning to their relationship, neither one will escape unchanged - or unsmitten!

Sweet,enjoyable story.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story. We learn about the people who live in the Hollow and about the poverty during this time. I feel as though I got to know the people in the story. We see the contrast of good and evil, with the good people showing kindness and love to prayers in the story.

A Sweet story
I enjoyed this book very much. Kim weaves a tale about mountain people and city people without being condescending to either, while pointing out strengths and weakness in both. Some reviews state that the story moves slowly. Ironically, that is what I enjoy most about Kim's writing. She brings you into the daily life of her stories. I like this series!

LOVE that Jesus brought to them
I LOVED this story so much. It brought in the Bible and the changes GOD makes to people when they choose to live with the LORD JESUS! I was really surprised and happy that it talked about the Lord Jesus Christ throughout the story. And MOST IMPORTANTLY,a HAPPY ending!

New author for me
This is the first Kim sawyers book I’ve listened to. I’m used to Lynn Austin’s books. It’s hard to find good clean books with no curses and sex so I’m giving this a higher rating for the fact that it’s a clean Christian book that we need more of!

Hope there is a sequel!
Wonderful read! Love the characters and how this author weaves the love of our savior Jesus into her books! Loved it!

Kim Vogel Sawyer takes the listener on a journey back in America's history. The characters are exciting and entertaining. The story shows us what it was like during The Great Depression. There were so many stories all rolled into a compelling listen.
Kate Forbes did an excellent job with narration.

No fluff here!
I liked the historical accuracy & perspective. Multiple interesting characters with challenges and growth. Characters with character.
