As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

Our past might create our patterns, but we can change those patterns for the better...with the right tools. The truth is the happiest and most successful couples fight—all the time. Conflict is human, and necessary.

Most men are clueless around how to do intimate relationships well. Most women don’t know much better. That was Bryan’s story for decades. At 36, in the midst of yet another agonizing breakup, Bryan had a painful epiphany: he had no idea what women wanted from him and no idea what he actually wanted from a woman, either. Despite earning a Masters Degree in Human Relations and succeeding professionally as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, no one had ever taught him the essential skills for creating fulfilling intimacy that endures.

So many of us feel lonely, unfulfilled, or trapped—in our roles and relationships, in cycles of self-sabotage and bad decisions, by our patterns and misguided attempts to feel happy or to feel something. According to existential psychotherapist Sara Kuburic, it doesn’t have to be so difficult. Really. The answer is found in facing ourselves—whatever version that might be, regardless of whether we like the person we see reflected back to us. It’s about accepting full responsibility for the choices and actions that create our reality.

We are all interconnected—and dependent on each other to shape the world in which we live. Yet even though technology has allowed us to digitally share our lives with more people than ever, the result has been a growing pattern of personal isolation, alienation, and division. Publisher's summary
This program is read by the authors and features audio-exclusive conversations between them at the end of each chapter. Liberated Love is the ultimate guide to building and maintaining sustainable relationships that feel safe, real, and involved.
We all desire great love. Yet, there seems to be a lot in the way when it comes to cultivating a relationship we crave.
Why is that?
It’s time for a new template—one rooted in choice, truth, safety, and respect. To get us there, Mark Groves and Kylie McBeath, champions of positive philosophy, provide us a roadmap, one they walked themselves, to step out of protection mode and into connection mode.
Groves and McBeath’s work—through their Create the Love seminars, workbooks, and consultation programs—have educated a new generation of relationship seekers on the best ways to practice and cultivate love. In Liberated Love, you’ll explore your original relationship blueprint and learn how it informs your current relationships (spoiler alert: it’s often a pretty direct line), and discover how limitation can be the key to finding freedom and experiencing full, fully-realized love with another person.
Equipped with real-life situations and stories, exercises, rituals, and tools that lead to productive self-examination, Groves and McBeath illuminate how to be aware of our most instinctual defenses, survival strategies, and coping mechanisms, how to have conversations about relationships without turning them into “relationship conversations,” and how to date in a way that protects your heart as you open it up to new possibilities.

“Love is our only hope,” Anne Lamott writes in this perceptive new book. “It is not always the easiest choice, but it is always the right one, the noble path, the way home to safety, no matter how bleak the future looks.” In Somehow: Thoughts on Love, Lamott explores the transformative power that love has in our lives: how it surprises us, forces us to confront uncomfortable truths, reminds us of our humanity, and guides us forward. “Love just won't be pinned down,” she says. “It is in our very atmosphere” and lies at the heart of who we are. We are, Lamott says, creatures of love.

A Masterpiece
I listened to the audible format of this book (Mark Groves has always been a gifted orator, so listening to this book is a special treat), and it was truly a masterpiece. Mark and Kylie have created a beautifully, well written guide that offers us all hope of understanding how to do relationships....better.
I'm sure I will refer to it often when I need a little help. BRAVO and thank you to the authors for this deeply supportive and healing resource.

Liberating Indeed!
Loved listening to Mark and Kylie share their experiences. The conversations between them at the end of the chapters was an extra bonus of the audio book. I’ve been looking forward to the book as I’ve enjoyed listening to Mark’s podcast. I learned some new things about myself that will help my relationships moving forward. Thank you!

honest, truthful, helpful
liked that it was read by both authors, with author commentary at the end of each chapter

Unstructured, tedious storylines
The intention is good, the result is a narrative that sounds so laid back and random that is impossible to engage. The speech and accent are tedious, difficult to understand. Would be much more interesting if it was read by a professional actor.
