Publisher's summary

Six friends. One college reunion. One unsolved murder.

Ten years after graduation, Jessica Miller has planned her triumphant return to her Southern, elite Duquette University, down to the envious whispers that are sure to follow in her wake. Everyone is going to see the girl she wants them to see - confident, beautiful, indifferent. Not the girl she was when she left campus, back when Heather Shelby's murder fractured everything, including the tight bond linking the six friends she'd been closest to since freshman year.

But not everyone is ready to move on. Not everyone left Duquette 10 years ago, and not everyone can let Heather's murder go unsolved. Someone is determined to trap the real killer, to make the guilty pay. When the six friends are reunited, they will be forced to confront what happened that night - and the years' worth of secrets each of them would do anything to keep hidden.

Told in racing dual timelines, with a dark campus setting and a darker look at friendship, love, obsession, and ambition, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is an addictive, propulsive story.

Meh

It was ok. I think the fact she was so fixed on what she was in college and Greek life ruined it for me

College Obsession

The story is centered around a college group of friends. Even as adults, college friendships and secrets are the only things that matter. The chapters alternate between the present and the past.

Psychological mystery is a big win

This Psychological mystery is a big win! I loved this book. In the beginning, it read more like a YA novel but the sinister and brutal murder and revenge quickly make it so much better than that. I love the little twists throughout, the unveiling of the truth- little by little. I highly recommend this novel!

Oh the twists & turns!

I didn’t love the main character in the beginning but I guess you’re not supposed to. This book was so good!

Twists and Turns

I recommend this book to anyone who went to high school and had a close group of friends. Just when you think you can predict what happens next, you’re surprised. This author is a talented story teller and I look forward to reading her next novel.

Too much hopping around for a boring ending

I was not pleased or impressed with this book. Does not live up to its hype.

Boring

No big twist. Ending was 1/5. Performance was mediocre. I wish we could standardize having male narrators for male characters and female narrators for female characters. Because narrators who try to do both sound ridiculous and never have enough differentiation between the opposite sex characters to tell who is who in a back and forth conversation which makes the book hard to follow.

Gossip Girl blended with murder!

The East House Seven are legends. Their college years were full of fun, parties, friendship, and memory making moments…until someone stabbed Heather Shelby seventeen times in the chest with a pair of scissors.

It’s been ten years and Jessica Miller is headed back to reunite with her college friends—all in one room, all back together again—eager to show off who she’s become to her ex boyfriend, his wife, and the rest of her friends. Until they realize that the murder of Heather isn’t as cold a case as they wanted to make it, and one of the Seven has blood on their hands.

This book was a dynamic dark academia thriller, going back and forth from the past to the future to paint a full circle picture of the events leading up to Heather’s death and the years that followed all the way up to the reunion and subsequent events.

It was Gossip Girl meets murder blended into a super well done thriller and oh my goodness I was fully taken in. Jessica as the narrator is 100% unreliable, the entire cast of characters are a mess straight out of a college drama, and I want more more more from this author. Absolutely excellent.
