—Unos trescientos —le respondí, lo mismo que pude haber dicho cualquier otro número. En realidad yo, por aquel entonces, sólo conocía a algún que otro vecino y a mis amiguillos de la panda.
El pueblo, por llamarlo de alguna manera, lo formaban una docena de cortijadas diseminadas por todo el valle. Al no tener Ayuntamiento propio no existía una estadística y siempre ha sido difícil precisar el número de habitantes.
Don Tomás, el cura que decía la misa los domingos y festivos, siempre había afirmado que sus feligreses eran alrededor de ochocientos.
