Publisher's summary

The best-selling novel featuring the "wonderfully epic hero" (People) who inspired the hit film Jack Reacher.

Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

Critic reviews

"Smashingly suspenseful...The kind of daylight-noir setting that Jim Thompson loved. Child builds tension to unbearable extremes.” (Kirkus Reviews [starred review])

“An explosive nail-biting climax.” (Library Journal)

Dick hill is the best Jack Reacher narrator. Also the story was one of the best by Lee Child

Good, but not great IMO

For me, the narrator and his mouth noises drive me absolutely bonkers and takes away from the story.

Narrator

Dick Hill sounds likeGeorge Murdock who played Lt. Scanlon on Barney Miller. The same burned out tired New York voice of a character no one liked. If it wasn’t for wanting to complete the series, I would’ve dumped this. Extremely tiresome narration.

Great story. not a repetitive storyline even with

so far I have really enjoyed working my way through the Jack Reacher series. I like that he has not become repetitive author having the same story over and over.
Although I love this narrator for other books, I feel he is not appropriate for Jack Reacher. that is strictly a personal opinion, as I feel that he ages the character too much. Although I have listened to many other books that he has narrated and he is truly an amazing narrator and wonderful at his performance. So please do not let this minor nitpicking change your mind about this book.

Uneven sound quality.

Volume goes down significantly when the actor reads / plays the female parts. Needed to fiddle around with the volume constantly.

Best yet

Clear and intriguing story. West Texas? Hot. Dry. Desert. I highly recommend. Perfect for Tom Cruise!
