Publisher's summary

First published in 1949 and praised in the New York Times Book Review as "full of beauty and vigor and bite", A Sand County Almanac combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land. As the forerunner to such important books as Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire, and Robert Finch's The Primal Place, this classic work remains as relevant today as it was more than 70 years ago.

classic I have loved for nearly two decades

I study ecology and biodiversity in college and later went on to be a industrial wind turbine technician. the introduction in this version comes across as condescending and out of touch demonizing and polarizing and made me resent the chosen narrator for the rest of my favorite novel a novel that should be mandatory consumption for all people of all nations and ages.

Personal view

I believe this book should be required reading for all students beginning with middle school students through college and or trade schools.
I just finished reading this book for the Book Club of the Master Gardener Program in Hennepin County, MN. I gained many takeaways from this re-think of our land and the many ways we misuse land in this country. I have concluded that GREED is really the be all and end all of person kind. I gained many insights. Until we as a species recognize our many ways we misuse land in favor of high rise living to increase tax bases of a community and so called need for more housing we will not leave much of a community or country for future generations. This disregard for the future will be detrimental to future societies. A better review of the demographics I think will show that the building of more High Rise Apartment would not be necessary. Thank you for this rendering of A Sand Country Almanac.

A Conservationist Classic

if I were only allowed 10 books on my bookshelf, this would be one of them. The stories are engaging and the message is timeless. My only disappointment was, had the reader been male, I could have fantasized that it was Aldo Leopold's voice.

Delicious

A classic and a vital contribution to how we as a society see the land. Especially in the current climate crisis. If you don’t care about nature, you will after reading this. If you’re a seasoned naturalist, you’re about to feel like you’ve met an old friend.

Reader was all wrong

This is a masterpiece of modern ecology, but the choice of reader ruined this for me. Her gentile actress voice conveyed neither the deep urgency of Leopold’s message nor his deep connection with the land.

One of the best books I have ever read

An important portrayal of how important and beautiful nature is. I would suggest that this book be read by every person to help them better understand and appreciate the world around them.

Must Read for Anyone

Leopold's sense of awareness and what would today be coined mindfulness is inspiring as his words apply still today.

I love this book!

I read this book in college. I am so happy that I was able to listen to it again on audible. it just reminds me why I love being an environmentalist and why every little thing in the world matters even if you don't think about it and you normal life
