Publisher's summary

In the cut-throat game of court life, masters manipulate pawns—and you never know which one you are. One thing is certain: there's no space on the board for love.

A penniless noblewoman, Kat is on the verge of losing everything when she's offered a well-paid job that could be her salvation… or her ruin. Drawn into court's deadly intrigues, she's given a single task: spy on the powerful fae lord known as the Night Queen's Shadow.

Bastian Marwood is handsome, ruthless, and cunning, but Kat can't decide if he's a threat to her kingdom or just her heart. To uncover the truth, she must play a dangerous game of desire and deceit, pushing him to reveal his secrets while protecting her own. But Bastian's shadows have a hold on her—one she isn't sure she wants to escape.

Kat soon learns that at court, nothing is as it seems, and even the best-laid plans can be destroyed in an instant. As a pawn on the board, she can't afford to fall victim to love—only fight for survival.

A Kiss of Iron is the first book in a new series featuring court intrigue, a morally grey hero, and an unforgettable enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Gild and From Blood and Ash.

A great book!

I loved the story and all the details added. I am going to read the story leading uo to these books, I do wish they were available on Audible though. The performance was great, very clear and the voices were perfect. BUT the epilogues male narrator just reminded me of someone narrating a wildlife show on National Geographic. I had a hard time listening to it honestly.

Talk about a slooooooooow burn. yeesh.

Honestly the FMC kind of annoyed the crap out of me for most of this book, but overall it was good. I have a strong dislike for her single minded goal of saving an estate that belongs to her POS husband who could take it away from her at any point and ruin all her hard work. Wouldn't it have been better to use the money she earned to move her household into a new home and provide for them there or something along those lines? I digress. She's weak, but I understand she was written that way on purpose to [HOPEFULLY] have some character evolution as the series progresses. 🤞
Bastian and Ella saved this one for me.
I hope the next book is better and the FMC will stop being so damn self-righteous 🙄

Descent but sometimes weird narration

This book was not bad, not great but has potential as a series. It was definitely longer than it needed to be bc of so much repetition but I appreciated an adult cast of characters. The narrator was really weird though, throughout the book it sounded like she was holding something in her mouth.

Woooowwwww

Dead! So amazing!! Made me feel all the feels and my new ACOTAR like fix. I’ve read so many books and this is top three this year! The narrator I wasn’t the biggest fan of, I feel like she did this weird puffy cheek voice but the story was so good I was able to get passed that.

Love love love!

Such great narration! Loved the story so much but the voices truly made it. I bought the second soon after starting this book.

The man reading in the epilogue is terrible

This book is great. I really loved the story. There were parts that got a tad boring but it would pick up shortly anytime after I got bored. The only thing that got on my nerves was the way the man speaking in the epilogue read every sentence like a question. Like before a period his voice would pick up I could barely pay attention to it because the diction was just so unnatural.

Not your normal court

A wonderful telling of classic court drama with a fairytail twist. A enthralling listen.
