Story
In The Archer we meet Tetsuya, a man once famous for his prodigious gift with a bow and arrow but who has since retired from public life, and the boy who comes searching for him. The boy has many questions, and in answering them Tetsuya illustrates the way of the bow and the tenets of a meaningful life. Paulo Coelho's story suggests that living without a connection between action and soul cannot fulfill, that a life constricted by fear of rejection or failure is not a life worth living.

Before we can truly express our inner self, we must first learn to be at peace and overcome the distractions that can make performance difficult. Kenny's remarkable work deals directly with these hindrances, and presents ways to let our natural creative powers flow freely with minimal stress and effort.

More than a decade before the release of the book that would make him famous, Robert M. Publisher's summary
This intriguing, influential work of literature - an outstanding way to experience Zen - is now available in audio.
It is almost impossible to understand Zen by studying it as you would other intellectual pursuits. The best way to understand Zen is, simply, to Zen. This is what author Eugen Herrigel allows us to do by sharing his own fascinating journey toward a comprehension of this illuminating philosophy.
In Japan, an art such as archery is not practiced solely for utilitarian purposes such as learning to hit targets. Archery is also meant to train the mind and bring it into contact with the ultimate reality. If one really wishes to be master of an art, technical knowledge of it is not enough. One has to transcend technique so that the art becomes an “artless art” growing out of the unconsciousness. In this way, as the author simply, clearly demonstrates, archery becomes a path to greater understanding and enlightenment.

Story
On the Warrior’s Path connects the martial arts with this larger perspective, merging subtle philosophies with no-holds-barred competition, Nietzsche with Bruce Lee, radical Taoism and Buddhism with the Star Wars Trilogy, traditional martial arts with basketball and American Indian culture. At the center of all these phenomena is the warrior. Though this archetype seems to manifest contradictory values, author Daniele Bolelli describes the heart of this tension: how the training of martial technique leads to a renunciation of violence, and how overcoming fear leads to a unique freedom.

The teaching of the Eightfold Path challenges us to grasp the implications of that vision, and asks us to transform ourselves in its light. General interest in Buddhism has never been higher. The story and teachings of a man who lived 2,500 years ago have a special resonance for us today, perhaps because he taught a way of life that was not based on belief in a creator god but rather on personal experience. "Test my words for yourself," he said. But what lies behind those distinctive images of the Buddha, seated with unshakeable poise, with eyes half-closed and a slight smile? Paulo Coelho's story suggests that living without a connection between action and soul cannot fulfill, that a life constricted by fear of rejection or failure is not a life worth living.

An instant teaching in the first minutes. And that's just the beginning.

Good content, bad sound mixing
I enjoyed the book and it's content.
In regards to the narrator, as other reviews stated, his "master" voice is somewhat grating. I found that the mixing of this audiobook could use a lot of work as there is a constant sound that the narrator makes that sounds like he is thirsty and there is a smacking noise that made the book unbearable to listen to.
If that sort of noise bothers you, pick up the physical book.

Valuable as a photographer, and human
I’m no archer. I make photos, for myself and for a living. In recent years I’ve been more intentional with my study, which has improved in many ways my photography. However, I have felt myself become more stuttered, hesitant, exacting in my techniques. Recently I’ve sought to let go, to care less. So it was fortunate that this book was recommended by a photographer whom I admire—Joel Meyerowitz. I think I should listen two or three or many more times to this. But already I feel myself changing, snapping away without fear and hesitation more, though not always. May it help you find your innocence in whatever you endeavor.

A classic in the art of Zen and sports psychology
The book was written 1948 so the style may seem strange at first but the book cuts straight through. If you are looking for theory then zen is not the path for you. I recommend listening to this book many times and letting it wash through you. Also you will need an art to experience the practice.
