Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Story
Earth was invaded. Earth was conquered. And humanity was summarily subjugated, as 400,000,000 people were culled. The terrifying part was this only took the Peacekeepers a second. There wasn't even a chance for us to fight back. In the blink of an eye, questions like whether or not we're alone in the universe or at the top of the food chain were answered. We were not. Not by a long shot. Despite the mass murder, the Peacekeepers promise they're benevolent. They don't want to rule Earth. They don't want to control humanity. They just want us to stop playing around with AI and genetics.

Publisher's summary
Tal has found a doorway to an ancient pocket dimension in the woods, but the discovery has cost him dearly.
Spellbook is lost somewhere inside, held by an unknown magical force. Should his bond to the book fade, Tal fears he will lose all awareness of the time loop he’s trapped in and any chance of escaping it. He must get Spellbook back before this happens, but the enchantments protecting the pocket dimension are formidable.
Another threat is the presence Tal has detected hidden amid the oblivious citizenry of Crossroads—someone else is aware of the loop. A foe who retains their memories is a serious problem, but Tal has no idea who it could be. He’s determined to draw the mysterious individual out of the shadows before they find him first.
Tal can’t afford to let his magical and combat training fall by the wayside either. After all, new dangers are revealing themselves every reset—the behavior of the town’s rats are particularly disturbing. So a new instructor is called for, however brutal their methods may be....

Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

But when he goes too far during a televised stream, he's handed a punishment unlike any other. After accidentally becoming Lord of Gloomwood Manor, countless enemies seek to kill Drake and take his title. All he wanted was some beer and a pack of donuts. Instead, Drake got abducted, tossed into a fantasy world, and almost ritually executed by a pro-wrestler monk with performance issues. After stabbing his rather idiotic kidnapper to death, he magically inherits the old fart’s massive mansion, servants, mountains of gold, and deadly magic powers... which would be great if it also didn’t paint a giant target on his back.

When Aesca Lampi wakes up in the form of her character from Eldest Fantasy Wars Online, she's annoyed by the historical inaccuracies. (Video-game-style scrolls? Really?) That is, until a building collapses on top of her, revealing she's on a fantastical island centered around the impossibly tall, glowing Tower of Aetherius . . . with an array of dangerous creatures—including jaguar hybrids, velociraptors, and giant, flesh-eating lizards—in the way. A very good continuation, better than the first book
I found the dynamics between Dagmar and Tal quite fun and I enjoyed this book more than the previous one.
I didn’t really like the info dumps and diary narratives from side characters all that much but they do explain aspects that will come up later, most of them anyway. I’d still have liked this to be handled a little bit differently. Not everyone’s diary is an engaging read.
Again, recommend .95 speed for Travis, although his narration is spot on as always.

I love this series!
This is a fantastic new take on the time loop and forbidden magics genres. I loved the first book, and this one is even better. We get to know much more about the world, magic, and most everything about the time loop itself! I definitely enjoy the diary style of storytelling, and I love seeing how the MC develops throughout the long day, plus it has some of the best little time loop terms like "Next Today".

Great follow up to a great story
I searched for a long time to find a good time loop story. Most of them become to repetitive or lost track of details to often. Dear Spellbook finally solved those issues. Everytime I was just starting to think things would get reptative it would jump to scene from before the time loop started. giving us details of what led to the characters being here in the first place. This sequel followed a similar but distinct path of jumping to the recollections of people who lived through the time loop after it ends. This is a great way to give us context of events that the characters in the story weren't a part of without resorting to exposition. I only have one complaint... so ending them like this!

Amazing Once More
A great continuation of the first book. As we have caught up to the present in terms of flashbacks, the interludes are a bit different but just as enjoyable. I quite liked both the expanded worldbuilding, and the reveal on how the time loop system works.
See my review of the first book for a more in depth discussion of the merits and faults. It's the top one last I checked.
A masterful sequel, and I truly recommend.
