Publisher's summary

After losing their parents when they were just babies, private investigators Fran and Ken Stein now specialize in helping adoptees find their birth parents. So when a client asks them for help finding her father, with her only clue a rare ukulele, the case is a little weird, sure, but it's nothing they can't handle. But soon Fran and her brother are plunged into a world where nothing makes sense—and not just the fact that a very short (but very cute) NYPD detective keeps trying to take eternal singleton Fran out on dates.

All Fran wants to do is find the ukulele and collect their fee, but it's hard to keep your focus when you're stumbling over corpses and receiving messages that suggest your (dead) parents are very much alive. Ukuleles aside, it's becoming clear that someone knows something they shouldn't—that Fran and Ken Stein weren't so much born as built…

The Ukulele of Death is the first in a new series of light-hearted, paranormal tinged mysteries that are filled with off-beat humor, heart, and the wry wisdom that's E.J. Copperman's signature style.

Wonderful!

I absolutely love the characters in this story, especially Fran and her narration. She is awesome, and the actual narrator chosen to represent her did such a marvelous job. So good!

Smart and Funny

This was a fun, smart, extremely enjoyable listen. I loved the narrator and hope that we get to hear her again on the next Fran and Ken Stein mystery. A complete joy!

Refreshing

I loved the different type story line. I enjoyed the unknown elements of Fran and Ken and how the author sets you up to the next turn in the story. Kept me engaged and trying to put the pieces together and I look forward to the next book in the series!

Good Story, Narration needs improvement

Story is great. I love E.J Copperman's writing. The narrator was not great. Most of the story was read in the form of a question? That's not great?

Unusual for this author, but the writing didn't disappoint

I was at first taken aback by the protagonist, but Copperman's writing quickly pulled me in. I enjoy this story.

Great book!

This book is awesome and I can’t wait for the next one in the series. If you like the other E J Copperman series you will love this one just as much!

Good story not as good as others.

Up until this book I have really enjoyed all of EJ Copperman's books. After listening to this book I think what I liked most about the books was the narrator. She is just really good at the narration. The name is Ranconi I think. The story wasn't bad it was just really slow to get going. The narration was okay, but when she tried to give Ken a voice he just sounded dumb.

Keep then coming!

I love what I hope is the first in a new series by E. J. Copperman! Fran and Ken are refreshingly magical, but in a non witchy, zombie, or ghostly way. Fran is funny and feminine as the supersized protagonist. I have already recommended this book to my friends and will continue to do so. Thanks for a great read!

Disappointed

I LOVE the writing of EJ Cooperman, but I was seriously disappointed in Ukulele of Death. The narration was terrible, and the story line moved slowly. The characters were not as interesting and developed as in other writings but this author. One of the things I enjoy about Cooperman’s work is the humor and sarcasm given to the characters. I did not think the attempt at humor and sarcasm worked with these characters.
