Publisher's summary

In this engaging social history New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, “the most prolific and successful historical novelist in the world today” (Wall Street Journal), completes his epic Last Kingdom series with this companion book featuring three exclusive short stories and sixty recipes that bring Uhtred’s world to life as never before.

My name is Uhtred. I am the son of Uhtred, who was the son of Uhtred and his father was also called Uhtred . . .

The Last Kingdom is one of the most successful historical fiction series of our time. The novels tell the epic story of the birth of England and introduces one of the greatest ever fictional heroes: the iconic Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the Saxon-born, Norse-raised warrior and rebel. In this lively compendium, Bernard Cornwell revisits Uhtred’s realm, illuminating elements of the Anglo-Saxon world he couldn’t fully explore in his novels.

Uhtred’s Feast offers rich background on the books of the Last Kingdom series, presenting a fascinating, detailed view of Anglo-Saxon life in all its splendor, danger, and beauty. With his narrative flair, Cornwell explores every aspect of this historical period, from the clothes to weapons to food, offering beautifully crafted recipes of early Anglo-Saxon fare, created by renowned UK chef Suzanne Pollak. In addition, he has written three new stories exclusive to this book that reveal the man behind the shield—Uhtred as a young boy, as Alfred’s advisor, and as prince.

Great short ending to Uhtred’s journey

I was glad to see that Matt Bates was the narrator of this one, and he did a great job, as always. This is a few short stories that fill some gaps, add some detail, and finish up Uhtred’s journey. If you’ve taken the time to read the first 13 books, take a little extra to finish it off. Also comes with a little cookbook pdf download as well!

The Story Continues

This is a great short novel in the series. For fans of Uhtred and his adventures you will enjoy this. The story goes back in the past to Osbert days, King Alfred days, and gives a new adventure for Uhtred and Finnan which topped off a great listen.

As an old man, he is forced to reminisce about his past, as well as defend his people in the present worth a listen

Brevity. There are only 2 short stories in this book. Was really hoping for more.

The stories were interesting and, as always, well written. But there were only 2 short stories.

A nice little bit of story

What can I say, this is one of my favorite authors telling a nice extra few stories from my favorite of his characters(plus all his companions). All I can really say is that I'm feeling greedy and want more. Hopefully MrCornwell gives us some more someday. If you loved the Saxon Stories I think you'll appreciate this book. it's not long but the few stories are worth it imo.

Supper short but worth the read

This has to be one of Bernard Cornwell’s shortest books. Certainly the shortest I have ever listened too. It’s a nice icing on the cake to the Uhtred stories.

Short and unattached

I have listened to / read all of the other "Last Kingdom" series books and was excited for a final visit to Uthred's world. But I was somewhat disappointed in this entry. To me it seemed like bits that were cut from previous novels--unattached and telling no more of the story. Spoiler Alert: it didn't even tell of the last days of Uthred.

The bits that were in here are somewhat entertaining, I wish it were more of a complete story, not random bits.

The performance was great and I had no issues.
