Publisher's summary

From successful parents, learn how to train up your children rather than discipline them. With humor and real-life examples, this book shows you how to train your children before the need to discipline arises. Be done with corrective discipline; make them allies rather than adversaries. The stress will be gone, and your obedient children will praise you and bring joy and peace into your home. Thousands have testified to the amazing results of these profoundly simple techniques.

This book is not about discipline nor problematic children. The emphasis is on the training of a child before the need to discipline arises. It is apparent that though they expect obedience, most parents never attempt to train their child to obey. They wait until his behavior becomes unbearable and then explode.

With proper training, discipline can be reduced to five percent of what many now practice. As you come to understand the difference between training and discipline, you will have a renewed vision for your family - no more raised voices, no contention, no bad attitudes, fewer spankings, a cheerful atmosphere in the home, and total obedience from your children.

Must read for child rearing

I loved this book so much. I’ve been listening to audibles since 2017 and read lots of child rearing but none like this one.

Phenomenal book!

Don't listen to those who say that this book supports child abuse. These people are not Christian. If you are looking for a solid book on child-rearing with Christian principles, this is it.

Phenomenal book!

I cannot recommend this book enough. Michael and Debi Pearl offer sound, biblical advice in all of their marriage and parenting books. The advice is very straight forward. Michael Pearl does not dance around topics like discipline, but instead gives blunt, sound advice on biblically training up a child. Highly recommend.

Christian parenting advice that's truly Biblical

If you're not a Christian, you will think this book is harsh, but if you truly know the Bible, it is wonderful and straight forward. No sugar coating. I thought the performance by Stephen Pearl could've been more enthusiastic, especially where you know there's supposed to be enthusiasm. Definitely recommend this book!

Wow

Wow, this book is life changing, I can’t imagine a born again believer rating this less than 4 stars. I can only assume those that rated it lower didn’t test the concepts in practice. Thank y’all for writing this book, I wish I had read it 12 years ago.

Child Abuse

While there are valid instructions in this book there is a lot of abusive behavior. I'm devastated i paid for this book and unintentionally supporting this author.

A fundamentalist how-to-abuse-your-children guide

This is a fundamentalist how-to-abuse-your-children guidebook that offers insight into some of the most authoritarian segments of the evangelical homeschooling movement.

This book suggests hitting children under a year of age somehow benefits them, that secular education is a literal tool of Satan, and that the science that overwhelmingly demonstrates that corporal punishment has negative outcomes is carried out by "socialists and sodomites."

This book provided the rationale my parents used to criminally neglect my education, hit me, and isolate me as a child. I did not Learn how to read until I was 13. It stands next to the works of such anti-education evangelical "heroes" as Voddie Baucham and Bill Gothard, and it is nearly as hostile to a child's ability to thrive.
