Publisher's summary

The Vision is the true story about how Jesus allowed me to play a part in the success of women’s professional basketball in the United States, to give American women the opportunity to stay in their home country and play professional basketball like their male counterparts have for decades.

Since Title lX, there hadn’t been a greater moment for women’s basketball until the arrival of the Women’s Basketball Association. And the rest is history!

Critic reviews

"Lightning Mitchell’s book is very compelling and relays the truth about the history of the start of the WBA...instrumental…inspirational…amazing. This book should be read by all." (Coach Marcus D. Harvey)

"I thought that the Women’s Basketball Association would be something that Kansas City would be proud of for years and years to come. Today here’s a story told about what took place, and it was here in Kansas City." (Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-Missouri), Former mayor of Kansas City, Missouri.)

Great story but incomplete understanding

As someone whole played in the American basketball league , I enjoyed the book. It reminded me a lot about the struggles we had as well the joy of playing in a new women’s league.

What I didn’t like about the book was that the author didn’t really know the history of women’s basketball. There was no mention of the 1996 US olympic women’s basketball team and how their success influenced women’s pro basketball in the US. The author discredited the ABL with regards to them belonging in the women’s basketball HOF. They were started with 9 of the 12 Olympic players. The WBA did not have A list players. When reading the book, I kept expecting to hear a big time player I knew. That never happened.

I enjoyed the book until the end when the author seemed bitter about not being in the HOF. I also don’t believe the WNBA stole his idea. If you know about the 1995-96 National Team, then you would know that the WNBA was in the works.
