Publisher's summary

R. S. Belcher's debut novel, The Six-Gun Tarot, was enthusiastically greeted by critics and rans, who praised its wildly inventive mixture of dark fantasy, steampunk, and the Wild West. Now Belcher returns to Golgotha, Nevada, a bustling frontier town that hides more than its fair share of unnatural secrets.

1870. A haven for the blessed and the damned, including a fallen angel, a mad scientist, a pirate queen, and a deputy who is kin to coyotes, Golgotha has come through many nightmarish trials, but now an army of thirty-two outlaws, lunatics, serial killers, and cannibals are converging on the town, drawn by a grisly relic that dates back to the Donner Party...and the dawn of humanity.

Sheriff Jon Highfather and his deputies already have their hands full dealing with train robbers, a mysterious series of brutal murders, and the usual outbreaks of weirdness. But with 32 of the most vicious killers on Earth riding into Golgotha in just a few day's time, the town and its people will be tested as never before - and some of them will never be the same.

The Shotgun Arcana is even more spectacularly ambitious and imaginative than The Six-Gun Tarot, and confirms R. S. Belcher's status as a rising star.

First introduction to horror and WOW

Didn’t quite know what I was getting myself into and omg. Great book/story forced me to slow down to read and reread to keep track with the world building and character stories. 10/10 recommend

Excellent Overall

I enjoy the story overall. I like how everyone has issues with the society outside, but sometimes it seems a bit forced. My favorite characters are Mutt and Jim. The whole Daughters of Lilith thing is kind of weak and out of place to me. I am not even going to the the next story of the series because of the fact it is all about the Daughters of Lilith next time.
I thought the idea with Kate was excellent and her being a Pinkerton was clever. The Undead story arc is intriguing and the large storyline is outstanding in this second story of Golgotha.
I like the relationship the scholar has as well. Additionally, I enjoy how each villain gets a background and you understand why each one is such a key piece overall.
I would say the weakest villain storyline was the fat cannibal.

good but vulgar

I love the series... I am surprised how much swearing the characters do in this book. 😳 I would have loved to recommend this to friends and family but the cursing happens far too often. I don't understand where the potty mouth came from or why.
