Publisher's summary

In the seventh installment in the Strike series, Cormoran and Robin must rescue a man ensnared in the trap of a dangerous cult.

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is contacted by a worried father whose son, Will, has gone to join a religious cult in the depths of the Norfolk countryside.

The Universal Humanitarian Church is, on the surface, a peaceable organization that campaigns for a better world. Yet Strike discovers that beneath the surface there are deeply sinister undertones, and unexplained deaths.

In order to try to rescue Will, Strike's business partner, Robin Ellacott, decides to infiltrate the cult, and she travels to Norfolk to live incognito among its members. But in doing so, she is unprepared for the dangers that await her there or for the toll it will take on her. . .

Utterly pulse-pounding, The Running Grave moves Strike's and Robin's story forward in this epic, unforgettable seventh installment of the series.

Terrific story!

So much better than The Ink Black Heart. While the plot revolving around a cult figure is not new, Rowling’s imagination and impeccable pacing makes this an exciting addition to this series.

I was dismayed with the incorrect pronunciation of the I Ching. I did appreciate the shorter epigraphs but found it cringeworthy and jarring hearing throughout 34 hours plus of “I” pronounced as “eye” instead of “ee”, as a previous reviewer noted. How can such a major narration error happen again in a Rowling audio production?

Loved it!

Wow! Another great book in this series, I started it thinking 34 hours would be a very long listen, but as I progressed I didn"t want it to end! Robert Glenister is excellent as narrator. I have re-listened to the first six books at least once and enjoyed them all over again. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Meanwhile I'll probably listen to this one again in a few months.

Another excellent story

These books may be a little long but the story never disappoints. And the narrator is excellent.

Brilliant characterization, satisfying plot complexity

However one rates Rowling’s personal cancelability, her writing remains entertaining and masterful! Her choice to focus on cults is timely and timeless. Cheers for revealing the way that “normal” people can gradually become indoctrinated and fall prey to manipulation, and the trauma that results, even after the acute threats are removed.

Best Yet

This book was phenomenal. Easiest to follow and remember each character’s importance. The ending was a stunner!!! Cannot wait for the next in the series. I need it to be released like tomorrow!!! Thank you JK Rowling for giving us another series with characters to relate to, love and cherish.

What a Story; what a performance!

This is the best so far. I don’t know how JK is going to top this with the next one. I didn’t want the story to end and I desperately need to know when the next one is coming. I think this is the only series I have ever really anticipated the next chapter. Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling is a master!

Excellent

I enjoyed this book like I did the first 4 in the series. I felt like the last one was too caught up in irrelevant details and the one before that had way too many characters. I like to listen as opposed to reading so maybe that is why I didn’t like the last two as much.
Loved this one :)

One of the best in the series yet

I found myself physically reacting throughout this one - squealing with glee, gasping, getting goosebumps, muttering “f**k yeah” after strike’s glorious one-liners.

This has been the most drawn-out “will they won’t they” romance in history, and I’m still living for every single second of it. Crime, friendships, grief, side cases, family dynamics, psychology, gripping romance, witty dialogue, and action-packed scenes are all present in each book in this series - JK is truly a masterful writer.
