Publisher's summary

A haunting domestic drama about families and secrets, perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Shalini Boland and Lisa Jewell.

She’ll never forget...I’ll never forgive.

People always notice my daughter, Isobel. How could they not? Incredibly beautiful...until she speaks.

An unsettling little-girl voice, exactly like a child’s, but from the mouth of a full-grown woman.

Izzie might look grown up, but inside she’s trapped. Caught in the day it happened...the day that broke her from within. Our family fell apart that day, and we never could pick up the pieces....

A Slow Burner

An interesting story with great narration but it still seemed to drag on in places.

Surprise

Great surprise. I really enjoyed this book. I would have never guessed the ending!
I have a little trouble understanding the accent of the storyteller.

This is a 5 star book

This is my most favorite Lucy Dawson book. I don't understand all these bad reviews. They came across the spooky part and gave up, didn't wait the see the explanation for that. They missed out on a great book.
The narrator is awesome. Her adult voice is great and her child voice, which plays a major role, is absolutely perfect. Although, I wish there was a little difference between Rosie and Izzie.

The ending was very surprising and somewhat satisfying. I was hoping Izzie's mom would find out the truth to avoid future mistakes. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Mistry, and suspense.

BLUE RIBBONS across domains! ‘all have won and all must have prizes’ (paraphrase- L Carrol)

Terrifically presented ever-evolving characters.
Clear, well-paced, unpredictably (and non-annoyingly) twisty plot.
Emotionally gripping and provocative as a reading experience
Persistently Inspiring of further contemplation (mildly annoying-lol)

Very Entertaining! Mystery With Hints of Spooky!

(No Spoilers)

I listened to this book in a single day. I enjoyed the mystery and the slightly spooky characters. Nothing is as it seems and will keep you guessing.

The only reason that I can think of that anyone would find the story boring is because it didn't have any graphic sex or bloody violence. Even though there *was* some of both of these mentioned as part of character's history. None of it was described in detail. I appreciated this. There is some cursing but not a lot.

Great read. Give it a go! ~ JTC ~

Twists and Turns!

This novel is amazing, but it is made more so by the astounding talent of the narrator. I could not stop listening. I found myself being freaked out at some points and laughing aloud at others.

A true rollercoaster ride that ended sadly and yet, in some ways,
appropriately.

Totally Unexpected

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting with this story but, what I got wasn't it. I was so angry with the antagonists mother that I kept on shouting at her for her behaviour. This was a very creepy story a out childhood traumas affecting adult lives. Clare Corbett is a lovely narrator. I really enjoyed her performance, particularly her lively Welsh accent :D

Pretty good

I usually finish an audiobook in a day or two and this one took almost a week. it had a slow start, just wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be. The last hour really wrapped it up though and that's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. I was hoping it would be like her other books and keep me enthralled all the way thru but just didn't happen. Not a bad book but I would rather have spent a little bit of money on it at a bookstore instead of a credit.

Convoluted tale

I've enjoyed other books by Lucy Dawson, but this one not so much. To start, I don't find the idea of a "haunted house" very intriguing. The story began well but proceeded at a slow pace. There were many characters--none very likeable. The convoluted resolution was not especially satisfying to me. Overall rating: 2 1/2 stars, generously rounded up
