Publisher's summary

June Moody, a 30-something English professor, just wants to get away from her recent breakup and reunite with girlfriends over summer break. Her old friend and longtime nemesis Sadie MacTavish, a mega-successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower at her sprawling estate in the San Juan Islands. June is less than thrilled to spend time with Sadie and her husband - June's former crush - but agrees to go.

The party gets off to a shaky start when old grudges resurface, but when they wake the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is in shambles, and bloodstains mar the staircase. None of them has any memory of the night before; they wonder if they were drugged. Everyone's a suspect. Since June had a secret rendezvous with Sadie's husband, she has plenty of reason to suspect herself. Apparently, so do the cops.

A Celtic knot of suspense and surprise, this brooding, atmospheric novel will keep you guessing as each twist reveals a new possibility. It will remind you of friendships hidden in the depths of your own past and will make you wonder how well you really know the people you've loved the longest.

Wonderful Whodunit!

Who doesn't love a girls weekend?!?! But, how much do we really know about our friends, especially those we knew in high school or college?? Even more so if the most contact we've had is through social media as of late.
Throw a group for people together who most haven't physically hung out in years, add in some new characters, top it off with big emotions like jealousy and envy and you have the recipe for a great whodunit book.
I will admit I wasn't too sure of the book at the beginning. Some of the characters seemed a little too predictable and somewhat annoying. But, the author quickly started peeling away the layers and we learn that everyone isn't quite as they seem. There are plenty of secrets to unlock. Even though you know the premise of the book the author still did a great job of keeping it fresh and kept me guessing throughout the book. Even once all the excitement was over, the crimes had been solved she even unveiled a few smaller secrets that left my jaw dropping.
I enjoyed the narrators take on the authors story. I think she did a good job adding a level of emotion to the authors storyline. I read some reviews from people that didn't like narrator, if you are worried, listen to a sample, but I personally thought she did great.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre. But, also to anyone that just enjoys reading in general. This would be a great book for a weekend getaway or summer vacation.

too much

Unlikable characters and too much going on for an audio book to listen and keep up.

Even though it was easy to figure out who dun it - there was a exciting twist that I didn’t see coming. This was an enjoyable listen!

Good Story

I really enjoyed the story but the narrator made it difficult to listen to. Her mispronounciation of the Japanese name "Kimiko" made me wanna tear out my hair. The descriptions of smells & scenes etc. were too elaborate & way over dramatized but the premise made for a good book.

Really good. gas me thinking

as always there will be no spoilers in my reviews

liked this book more than I expected to. instantly bonded with characters. I wasn't crazy about the ending but it was good and it fit , my only odd critic would be that one character has a english/british accent. don't get me wrong I actually prefer my books with all characters having a london ? accent ,. but here only one person did. I felt thrown by it at times. The Narrator was spot on. very good with each character having a distinct voice pattern. great job.

Slow and a little annoying

Not yet finished, and I don’t know if I will. The main character is a weak female lead. Character development is pretty shallow. Finally, something is happening, and there is very little intensity to hold my attention. I abandoned it as soon as my book club decided on a new read.
