Doch noch steht dem hinterhältigen Unternehmen ein Hindernis entgegen: Tarzan, er Affenmensch. Weder Professor Porter noch seine Tochter Jane, nicht William Cecil Clayton und nicht der verbrecherische Snipes wissen von dessen Existenz. Aber auch Tarzan selbst hat bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch keinen weißen Mann zu Gesicht bekommen. Als sich sein Speer zum ersten Mal in die Schulter eines der Eindringlinge bohrt, sind alle gleichermaßen entsetzt. Bis auf den Professor, der inzwischen, wie er meint, eine geheimnisvolle Entdeckung gemacht hat. Aber auch den anderen steht noch eine Reihe von Überraschungen bevor. Und nur wenige davon sind ungefährlich.
