Publisher's summary

“Ingenious and beguiling.” - Time

“Crichton keeps us guessing at every turn in his best work since The Andromeda Strain.” - Los Angeles Times

Sphere may be Crichton’s best novel, but even if it ranked only second or third, it would be a must for suspense fans.” - Miami Herald

A classic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Crichton, Sphere is a bravura demonstration of what he does better than anyone: riveting storytelling that combines frighteningly plausible, cutting-edge science and technology with pulse-pounding action and serious chills. The gripping story of a group of American scientists sent to the ocean floor to investigate an alien ship, only to confront a terrifying discovery that defies imagination, Sphere is Crichton prime - truly masterful fiction from the ingenious mind that brought us Prey, State of Fear, and Jurassic Park.

Sphere was made into a film directed by Barry Levinson, which starred Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Said, Said, Said

Bad dialogue tagging, ending disappointed. Had a good plot, great chekov's gun structures. Failed emotional arcs. Character development was mediocre at best.

My favorite Crichton book

This was the first Crichton book I read many years ago. I absolutely love it! I couldn't put the book down all those years ago, and the audiobook was just as suspenseful. I've been waiting a long time for this to come out in audiobook form -- glad to see it finally happened.

Good story; poorly formatted file.

Good sci-fi romp. Not my favorite Crichton book, but worth checking out.

However, this audio book is horribly formatted. It's only broken into the four main sections, not individual chapters.

Incredible Journey

Edge of my seat the whole time. Extremely thought provoking. Loved it! Can’t wait to see if the film can do it justice....

One of Chriton's Least Cohesive Stories

I've read (or listened to) all of Michael Chriton's books. This falls squarely in the middle of the pack.

Wow! What a ride!! This book was incredible

The story had me sitting in the edge of my seat the whole time. The story makes you really think about it if this could very well happen..... Loved this book.

Ho Hum

Scott Brick was good as usual. He would be great reading the phonebook.

while the story was good it was not great.

So close to being an amazing book!

The book starts a little slow but gets into some really great action sequences and a pretty enthralling mystery. But this is definitely a classic example of how the ending can make or break an entire book! Obviously, everyone has their own preference but to me, the ending seemed to nullify the entire journey. They went through so much to finally make it over the hump and then it was all squished in just a few moments. I’m sorry I’m being vague. I’m trying not to give any spoilers to people who still want to give it a shot. Like I said, the rest of the book was captivating and enjoyable. Just wish the ending had gone a different direction.

The voice actor needs help

Scott needs to be replaced with a new narrator. The audio needs to be broken into smaller pieces. This is one of my favorites from Crichton and they made it into a book I use to fall asleep to.

Just as good the second time

I read this book years ago. I remembered that I liked it because I kept the book. I love Michael Crichton books. I am glad I "read" it again. I had forgotten the ending and I liked it. A good syfy book.
