Publisher's summary

Anything but total victory...is total extinction.

The Terran Republic's outlying worlds are disappearing. The stars themselves vanishing without a trace. As the Republic panics, Star Command dispatches Admiral Drex and the Fifth Fleet to investigate.

A meeting with the Drakon Confederation reveals the nature of the threat, as new alliances are made. But the balance of power in the galaxy has shifted, and war looms on the horizon. The ancient gods of the Drako, long thought to be nothing more than myth and legend, have returned after aeons. Returned with technology billions of years more advanced than the Republic's, intent upon consuming the galaxy itself.

As the Republic battles enemies without, and traitors within, the dark shadow of extinction creeps over the galaxy. And only the Fifth Fleet, and its elite strike force Shadow Squadron, stand between mankind and annihilation.

For fans of gritty military sci-fi and epic space opera, Space Force is Star Wars meets Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

I really wanted to like this story.

I was looking for some good space opera esque military sci fi with some grit and grim, and I thought this might be it. turns out it's going for an all out space opera feel. the end of the world is coming and only these people can save it type scenario. heroes, not soldiers, was the vibe, even if the characters wouldnt say so. it might still have been really good, but the writing was really cringy. Dialogue was very poor, situations felt forced or contrived, and there were very few scenes with genuine pathos. mostly, the plot moved forward and that was all.

Action packed space adventure

I loved this book. It was fun. And that isn't something that is too common anymore in military sci-fi and space opera. It doesn't take itself too seriously either, and that is also a relief. It is gritty, raw, and keeps you on your toes. I recommend it to anyone who loves sci-fi.
