Is the appeal of this series simple voyeurism?

Voyeurism: enjoyment from seeing/hearing the pain or distress of others.

I've now listened to the first 7 episodes of this series, but will not continue it.

Accountability.ownership

Didn't like this one. This guy deserved more of a reassurance and explanation from his wife. Esther was soft and there seemed to be zero accountability, zero ownership and zero discipline on the wife's part. If you want to experiment sexually don't get married or at least tell the guy you're marrying you want an open relationship. She's having her cake and eating it too.

One sided

Usually I love this podcast, but I think there's something missing with this one. The man's feeling like "he was holding down the home while she was pursuing her career" is a little bit of a double standard. Men have been doing that to their women who are stuck at home for centuries. It doesnt make him special. He's projecting all these things from his childhood (alcoholic father, death of surrogate father) onto his wife, who he moved to America when she was very young. Clearly it was a mistake to marry so young so if you cant forgive and move on then just...move on. It seems like he just wants to be mad forever.

Empathy lessons

Esther Perel is a master mediator who takes no sides and helps her subjects become aware, probably for the first time, of their past pain bodies and how they play out in the present. She has profoundly 'simple' ways of revealing truths that can enable people to awaken to self and other and begin healing. I've heard all of her programs and can't recommend them enough ... if you're a human being, you'll benefit.

She missed a big point

I *love* Esther Perel and I am really impressed with these sessions. In this one I think she really missed the fact that this guy is a perpetual victim and has some deep personal problems that need to be worked out. She brushed on it a bit but really dismissed it as a problem and that was a bit disappointing.

The best so far!

This episode was amazing. As a society we need to understand the vulnerability of men and hold women accountable for their actions and how those actions hurt the men in our lives. Being a strong women is a whole package.

Timely and poignant

So touching and concise. The couple got down to brass tacks. Deeper emotional wounding happening before affair; examination of own life messages. She's an excellent counselor!
