Amelia Beaumont has not gotten over the death of her betrothed three years ago. While visiting family, she meets Duke Nash Fitzroy when she gets lost heading for a ball. They clash with each other yet feel another feeling both foreign to both of them as they have both vowed never to marry. But when the woman who broke the Duke's heart arrives back in town, Amelia is jealous and sad. Just when she has vowed to forget the Duke, she reads a startling newspaper article about him, and fears for his life.

This story isn't bad but isn't that good either. The narrator make some of the young ladies sound like old women with rough voices. That or maybe they smoke a pack of cigarettes a day.

A different concept of a Regency Romance

As a reader of Regency Romance, there has been certain rules that young ladies had to abide by, to keep their precious honor in tact. Such as never speaking to a gentleman, unless you had been formally introduced; never riding unescorted, especially at dusk; never dancing more than two dances with the same man; not being kissed by a gentleman, especially on a main thoroughfare.
I may have been too embroiled in other romances to see there errors, but if you are going to write of an era, you need to know the rules society lived by, in those times.
This was a refreshingly different tale, none the less, and I enjoyed it.
