Publisher's summary

All they have left is their pride.

Elliot Smith was once a hotshot attorney, but those days are long gone. A midlife crisis of conscience has left him with shattered confidence, abandoned by his former friends and scraping by at a legal aid clinic. When a smoking hot bad boy rescues him from the side of the road, Elliot is sure he doesn't stand a chance.

After a misspent youth boosting cars, Lucas Kelly runs his own garage and is finally getting his life back on track. He isn't about to risk everything by daring to hope for something more, especially not with a man so far above his pay grade.

The heat between them is enough to have them questioning everything they thought they knew about themselves. But is explosive chemistry enough to keep them together when Elliot's career threatens to drive them apart?

Contains mature themes.

I really enjoyed this read !

Both the Author and narrator are new for me and I’m so very happy I stumbled upon them both , I finished in 1 day and ready to read more from them both
The story was well written and very interesting from beginning to end.
The story had just the right amount of a plot and we got to know the characters back story to understand their current lives and how they got to this point, it also had just the right amount of spice to make the story even more entertaining 🌶️🌶️
I love the development of the relationship between the two main characters and their journey to HEA.
Definitely worth the listen and so refreshing to read a great story available in the membership!

Starts great, tries too hard and ends in syrup.

I had no expectations going in. Was pleasantly surprised how quickly the story started. Lucas is a great character, Elliot is fine - but St John does him no favors. She actually skewers him as the book goes on. It is unfortunate as there is so much to work with - age difference, opposites, ex con, second chances.

With the short run time, St John starts throwing all possible problems at our guys. She starts by delaying Elliot from going home on time to sit in on a meeting that’s going off the rails. It’s very manufactured and only serves to bring Elliot’s ex into the picture. From there it becomes Elliot’s worst evening ever! Rather than picking just one crisis and really developing it, there are several issues going on at once, all of them lacking depth.

Kirt Graves handles the material well. In fact, the aforementioned meeting shows Graves ability covering three distinct lawyers, a female client and a client with an accent. It flows effortlessly.

The story was close to getting that fourth star. Had St John not felt the need to over stimulate the reader with the everything and the kitchen sink series of crazy that happens in a 24 hour period, there might have been time for a bit more dialogue. For all that St John wanted to cover, this book is minimum 25 pages short to short.

Give it a listen, if only for Lucas, he is very smartly defined.
