Oswald Rufeisen sobrevivió en la guarida de los leones cuando trabajó de traductor para los nazis durante la Segunda Guerra mundial y decidió tomar su nombre. Como monje era Hermano Daniel y como sacerdote era el Padre Daniel.
Esta obra es una representación ficcional del juicio realizado en la Corte Suprema en la que las partes presentan sus argumentos a favor y en contra de la aceptación del Padre Daniel como judío en Israel.
La Corte Suprema rechazó el pedido del padre Daniel, quien a pesar de su fracaso, logró su objetivo: instalar en la sociedad israelí un debate de lo que significa ser judío hoy en día y divulgar su propuesta acerca de un judaísmo ampliado que acepte la enorme diversidad de los judíos como una fuerza renovadora de gran vitalidad.
