Publisher's summary

The second book by former Navy SEAL Mark Owen, following his multimillion-copy classic about the bin Laden mission No Easy Day, in which he tells the stories from his career that were most personal to him and that made him the operator and the person he is today.

While Mark Owen's instant New York Times best-seller No Easy Day focused on the high-profile targets and headline-grabbing chapters of the author's career, No Hero will be an account of the most personally meaningful missions from Owen's 13 years as a SEAL, including the moments in which he learned the most about himself and his teammates, in both success and failure.

Mark Owen describes his intentions for his second book best: "I want No Hero to offer something most books on war don't: the intimate side of it, the personal struggles and hardships and what I learned from them. The stories in No Hero will be a testament to my teammates and to all the other active and former SEALs who have dedicated their lives to freedom. In our community, we are constantly taught to mentor the younger generation and to pass the lessons and values we've learned on to others so that they can do the same to the guys coming up after them. This is what I plan to do for the reader of No Hero."

Every bit as action-packed as No Easy Day, and featuring stories from the training ground to the battlefield, No Hero offers listeners an unparalleled close-up view of the experiences and values that make Mark Owen and the men he served with capable of executing the missions we read about in the headlines.

Critic reviews

“Owen emphasizes the selflessness and service of his fellow SEALs, along with the lessons he learned, in a book that is sure to appeal to the many fans of in-the-trenches special forces memoirs.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Simple, well-told stories that will interest general readers and certainly anyone contemplating a career in special operations.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“Owen's writing is genuine and insightful....No Hero may have been intended for the next generation of SEALs, but the book's lessons can also be useful to civilians.” (Associated Press)

Solid and a definite recommendation.

This was a solid story from one of the few men that can operate at such a high level.

Definitely a collection of great anecdotal stories and delivered well.

This is a great book, though the narrator is a bit

I'm a huge fan of the Audible version of No Easy Day. This book, while not as exciting, is every bit as captivating as No Easy Day.

I won't spoil the book, but it's essentially a brief chronicle of Mark's career as a Seal. There are captivating stories told about himself and his teammates. If you enjoyed the original, you will without a doubt enjoy No Hero.

I was and am still disappointed that Holter Graham did not narrate this book. Paul Michael is nowhere near as good as Graham was. The narration alone keeps this book from being one of my "favorites". Even so, I'm nowhere near disappointed that I bought it. Recommended.

The only easy day is... "never" ..

A solid read most notable for the indelible imprint left on the reader of the immensity of the sacrifice our special warfare vets make and the oppressiveness of the Sissifian burden many will wrestle with for a lifetime.

A great look into the Seals and the foundation of their team work.

This is a great book for all those looking to serve their country and gives good points on how team work and leadership in the military can role over to civilian life. Mark Owen and Kevin Maurer did a fantastic job getting the emotion of the story into ink though be warned, much like the book and the movie Black Hawk Down, No Hero often gives emotionally charged and very graphic details of war. For those seeking knowledge of the Seal community though I would say this is the best book out thereto truly feel the experience.
