Publisher's summary

The New York Times bestselling author, governor of South Dakota, and former congresswoman tells eye-opening stories of DC dysfunction, shares lessons from leading her state through unprecedented challenge, and explains how we seize this moment to move America forward.

Any elected official can talk about how broken our government is. But their solutions always seem to involve more money, new programs—and reelection to another term. Few offer an unfiltered glimpse into how government actually works, empowering citizens with the knowledge to be part of the solution.

Governor Kristi Noem never planned on being in politics. But her concern for our nation compelled her, on a local, national, and global level. Because she took a different path into public service, as a concerned mom and rancher, her insights help every citizen understand how positive change really happens, despite the dysfunction in Washington DC.

Governor Noem explains how the country is not going back to the Republican party of the 2000s. And that’s a good thing. This book is packed with surprising stories and practical lessons from the front lines of the battle. And she names names.

A lot has changed since 2016, and based on her accomplishments in Congress and as Governor, no one is better equipped than Kristi Noem to explain the tremendous opportunities this opens up for every American.

Insightful and interesting!

I admire Governor Kristi Noem! I have listened to her for years! She is a down to earth person and has intelligent’s and compassion in her thoughts and decisions. She definitely works for the people. Narrating her book was like me sitting in the same room and absorbing her words and feelings. I personally would like to see her as our next Vice President. She would do an excellent job in this role as she has for South Dakota! I will continue to watch and listen to her. It is a very good book.

Wanted to listen for myself. Expressed vocally my opinion. Enjoyable.

Indeed, I did listen to this book. I used a credit I had for convenience and I felt good about the selection and looked forward to listening. I did connect with the author in regards to views about our country. And her state. I did confess to a friend of mine that I was listening to Governor Noem's book because I was seeking context for myself. My friend shared with me a few similar stories to the authors during conversation. I do find that vocal sounds that express an emotion like laughter don't provide more. I heard an enjoyable tone in the voice on my ears through my headphones. I earned a badge listening to this book. The section of the reading I experienced the largest rush of emotions was when the author spoke about taking an oath. Thank you.

A Down-to-Earth Leader

The Governor did a phenomenal job telling her story. She was direct and true to herself. I appreciated how she connected her leadership style to lessons instilled during her upbringing. I also value how she raises other women and shows confidence by shining a bright light on their successes rather than competing to attempt outshining them. That never is a good look. I also appreciated the various leadership lessons she sprinkled throughout the book and loved the ball juggling ice breaker she describes using at professional gatherings to demonstrate the core tasks of a good team leader. Governor Noem makes her position on key issues clear and is a focused critical thinker who can set aside emotions and make tough decisions when needed. She inspires and appears to value the voices of every day citizens and remains true to herself in her quest to serve. I’d be interested in seeing if her success in a less populated state translates or generalizes to comparable success in perhaps a future vice-presidential or presidential role. Her work in South Dakota has been noteworthy, but with its small population I question whether her projects feel like case studies, where given the small sample size of the US population, the results cannot reliably translate to the same success in larger, more densely populated states. I do think her role in Congress definitely adds to her qualifications beyond that of Governor. I’m looking forward to hearing more from Kristi Noem during the remainder of the 2024 election cycle.

Great look into politics

I like her common sense approach to politics and not following the status quo
