Very useful, issues with pronounciation

This book comes very handy if you want to learn ancient greek on the go. The only negative thing about it is the american pronounciation of some words. As I am not a native US english speaker I was very surprised how the letter alpha and the letter omikron become essentially the same. Both Λόγος and τόπος are essentially pronounced "lagas" and "tapas". In words with both alpha and omikron, such as ἀπό or αὐτός, the two sounds are indistinguishable to my ear, becoming "apa" and "autas".

Other than this, I highly recommend this as a supplement for greek studies.

great study tool

I'm learning biblical Greek, so this helped. It's just a guy reading words in Greek and then saying the English word. Nothing more.

Warning about pronunciation

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Any additional comments?

If you were taught Erasmian pronunciation as I was, this is very difficult to use. I cannot determine what the spelling is from the phonetic sound used and so have to think of all the possibilities on the fly. Not a good solution for listening while driving.

Helpful but tedious

This audio book is most effective for learning to pronounce Greek words according to the North American standard. Pennington is very careful in his pronunciations.

However, even thirty minutes of listening to vocabulary can be taxing on the brain, but it beats trying to read flash cards while driving!

Be sure to download the companion booklet for the spelling of these words.
