Potrebbe essere l'inizio di una commedia rosa, ma il colore di questa storia è decisamente un altro: un testimone, infatti, sostiene che quello di Giulio non sia stato un incidente, ma un tentato omicidio, e la pratica passa dagli uffici dell'assicurazione a quelli del commissariato.

Poi, costruita la storia, deve andare in cerca di ciò che la conferma e la contraddice. Cosí pensa il maresciallo dei carabinieri Pietro Fenoglio, piemontese trapiantato a Bari, che si trova a indagare su un omicidio dove tutto appare troppo chiaro fin dall'inizio. Non fosse che al principale sospettato, su cui si concentra ogni indizio, mancava qualsiasi movente per commettere il delitto.

Anche il commissario Bordelli si siede davanti al televisore per godersi la serata, ma una telefonata della questura lo strappa dalla poltrona e lo costringe a uscire di casa: una ragazza è stata uccisa, proprio mentre andava in onda la sigla... zum zum zum zuuum zum.
Da quel momento le giornate del commissario si complicano, altri misteri dovranno essere risolti. Uno in particolare lo tormenta: la terribile vicenda del maniaco omicida che ha già ucciso sei prostitute, tutte e sei bionde, di media statura, una ogni nove mesi esatti.
Bordelli si sente affaticato, e in mezzo alle ricerche concitate cerca di ritagliarsi momenti di tranquillità e di riflessione nel silenzio del bosco, che i versi degli animali rendono ancora più vero e profondo. Tra poco più di un anno andrà in pensione, e teme di lasciarsi alle spalle dei casi insoluti...
