Story
In the infinite voids of space, time had no meaning. No today. No yesterday. Suddenly, a gargantuan explosion tore through this nothingness. This caused the universe to be conceived and it spawned Leaffe, a supernatural being. She oversaw the creation of the universe and the creation of planets. On one planet, Zula, the people had advanced to such an extent that they overpopulated the planet by banning religions and the concomitant wars. This increased greenhouse gasses through the overuse of industry and the planet was heading for self-destruction.

There are only three real powers in the Spiral: the corporate power of the Trust versus the Union's labor's leverage. Between them the Guild tries to keep everyone's hands above the table. It ain't easy. Branded a Guild deserter, Jal "accidentally" lands a ride on a Guild ship. Helmed by an AI, with a ship's engineer/medic who doesn't see much of a difference between the two jobs, and a "don't make me shoot you" XO, the Guild crew of the Ambit is a little . . . different.

Raffi works in an observational cosmology lab, searching for dark matter and trying to hide how little they understand their own research. Every chance they get, they escape to see Britt, a queer sculptor who fascinates them for reasons they also don’t—or won’t—understand. As Raffi’s carefully constructed life begins to collapse, they become increasingly fixated on the multiverse and the idea that somewhere, there might be a universe where they mean as much to Britt as she does to them…and just like that, Raffi and Britt are thirteen years old, best friends and maybe something more.

Adjoa Andoh and Ann Leckie are Perfection
As a fan of the Leckie/Andoh audio combo, this collection doesn’t disappoint. Definitely a treat for a fan of Leckie, though I don’t know if it would be *as* good for someone who’s not familiar with her other work; this book enriches the worlds she’s created already while also giving us some charming one-offs. Hope there’s something in the works for 2025!
