En 1982, al acabar la guerra de las Malvinas, en la que murieron 649 soldados argentinos, muchos de ellos muy jóvenes, el oficial inglés Geoffrey Cardozo quedó a cargo de darles sepultura. Hizo cuando pudo para identificar cuerpos, y que hubiesen cruces y tumbas dignas. En fin, diseñó un cementerio. Y redactó un informe detallado del proceso. Este informe llegó a manos del gobierno militar argentino, que no hizo nada con él. Ni siquiera compartirlo con los familiares de las víctimas. Muchos caídos siguieron sin identificar durante décadas.
Este libro narra el empeño humanitario, político y forense por recuperar la memoria enterrada con esos restos, y a la sombra de una dictadura militar cuya violencia y represión alcanzaron las propias filas de soldados enviados a defender la soberanía de Argentina en las islas Malvinas.

Guerriero narra esta historia inverosímil con una austeridad ejemplar, con la dignidad propia de los grandes reportajes. Pero no "grandes" porque sean épicos o megalómanos: más bien es al revés. Guerriero practica un periodismo como lo hubiera cultivado Eurípides: atento siempre a la nota humana, acercándose a la voz de quien desea conocer.
