I'm sure your first question is: Can you actually learn a foreign language while you’re asleep? According to a Swiss research study in 2014, the answer is unassailably yes! In this study, a group of German speakers was given a list of unfamiliar Dutch words to study. Half were instructed to get some sleep while they listened to long lists of Dutch words and translations. The other half was instructed to stay awake. Four hours later, they were tested and the group that listened while they slept had significantly higher recall.

Hat's geniessen
Ich mag das Buch sehr, und Manteuffel ist ein Meisterleser.
As a non-native speaker, Manteuffel does great character voices, speaks clearly and once one knows the "fantasy" vocabulary, it's a great way to practice listening skills.

Guter Vorleser, Übersetzung gut genug
Ich habe die Harry Potter Serie so lieb, und ich habe mich auf das deutsche Hörbuch sehr gefreut. Normalerweise bemerke ich eine Übersetzung nur, wenn sie besonders ungeschickt ist, also bin ich glücklich, dass diese Übersetzung kaum auffallend ist. Der Vorleser ist ein bisschen mild, und manchmal sind seine Stimmen schwer erkennbar, aber insgesamt ist dieses Hörbuch ganz schön.

Great for practicing/learning German
This version speaks ever so slightly slower than the other German narrator. Great for intermediate German students who want to practice their listening before moving onto German news.

Brilliant and Essential
Have been a huge Potter fan for years. The movies are good, but obviously less detailed than the books, and not every actor is good. The Dale audio books are fine, but he makes every minor character sound drunk or as having a speech impediment. The other German Potter audio books are atrocious and unlistenable. But these by Manteuffel are absolutely brilliant on every level. I originally purchased them to help with my German language studies, but now consider them definitive Potter works, even better than anything in English. Thank you!
