ABRIDGED VERSION

Although this is an interesting story, written by an author I enjoy READING, I did not realize I would be buying an abridged version to LISTEN to.

Not Barr's Best

I am a Nevada Barr fan, but this one didn't fit together as neatly as the plots of her other books. At the end, there were still some loose ends. Perhaps because it was abridged.

Don't like edited versions

Wasn't aware that this was an edited version. There were so many details missing that it made following the story difficult. I'm used to un-edited versions- they may take longer but you get all the nuances.

YUCKY ABRIDGMENT

Come on audible, whats with the abridgements? I had to make up my own storyline and sorely missed B. Rosenblat as narrator.

Great Narration, Bad Recording!

Nevada Barr is a great writer, and her character, Anna Pigeon reminds one of a modern day version of Elizabeth Peter's character, Amelia Peabody Emerson. Joanna Gleason does a very good job narrating, almost as good as the great Barbara Rosenblat!
Two flaws with this audio: it is only available abridged (way to abridged to be easy to follow!) ; and the audio is very poorly recorded and very difficult to hear, even through Bose noise reducing headphones. Without these flaws, this would be a 5 star audiobook.

Not the same when read by a new reader

The story was good but it wasn't even close to her other books because the change in the reader changed the personality of the main character.

Skip the Abridged versions

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It is never a waste of time to listen to any book in Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon Series, but you miss so much of the beauty of the backdrop for each story (the National Park), that is it almost a crime to abridge it. Hold out for the unabridged version.

If you’ve listened to books by Nevada Barr before, how does this one compare?

Hard to compare this book to the others I have listen too (all of them) because I always opt for the unabridged if available and the abridged version disappoints.

Not up to Ms Barr's standard

Normally I love Nevada Barr's books featuring our national parks, and Anna is one of my very favorite characters in a novel.. But Ill Wind fell way short of Anna's normal adventures. Maybe because it was an abridged edition, it just didn't hold my interest the way her books usually do. The characters were not likeable, the plot was disappointing and the performance left much to be desired. I would not recommend this particular Anna Pidgeon book and will not read another abridged edition again.

Still managed to grip

It was a real shock to go down to this telephone quality format. In spite of that, the national park and Anna Pigeon still entertained me.
I had never previously considered the USA as a holiday destination, but this series of books have made me change my mind. I really enjoy mystery novels that are strongly set into the landscape and people, and Nevada Barr does this so well.
