Publisher's summary

It was supposed to be a medical marvel. Instead, it triggered the apocalypse.

Half of humanity mutated into mindless zombies. Half the survivors mutated into the inhumans: various new species of people with new appearances and abilities. Some grew scales, some grew fur, some could fly, some could survive only underwater.

Decades passed, and from the ashes of the old world, a new patchwork civilization rose. Humans and inhumans lived in tentative peace, and the zombies turned out to be not much of a threat once a few generations of survivors had come and gone.

All that changed last spring when the virus mutated again. Now, the inhumans are mutating into lethal horrors and running rampant, murdering thousands.

David is a survivor. Born decades after the collapse, his is a life of lonely wandering. As the first winter in this new world of dangerous monsters sets, he finds a place to bunk down for the season. But David has no idea that he is about to be forced to change the course of his entire life. When the settlement he intended to stay at is destroyed, he wanders the frozen countryside and begins encountering other survivors, many of them attractive, inhuman woman, looking for the same thing he is: comfort, companionship, and a place to call home...

This collection contains HAVEN 1-8 & HAVEN—EPILOGUE. It also contains three bonus short stories.

HAVEN features badass women, settlement building, and lots of monster fighting.

average

I have read this author before and loved their work. This one just seems different, the writing feels immature and inexperienced. It gets better as the series go on but not to the standard I was always expecting. The narrator at the beginning seems to be phoning in her performance. She honestly sounded like she was bored and just doing it for the paycheck. They got better by the last 3 books so I'm giving it a solid 3 stars. S good book to start the genre

still slowing going through it.

not a bad listen. but not a great one.

author really should have researched weapons, every magazine this guy finds In post apocalyptic America fits his gun... every one seems to carry only one company for handguns.
I get this is labeled As a MENS fantasy, but trust me it's a woman's fantasy. you can also tell the author has a real problem with America and men, it's pretty obvious. usually the author is tolerable to me, this one is a hard sell so far, her understanding of survival, weapons, security, fighting, construction, and men seem to come from ... oh I don't know ... a feminist maybe!!!
the author usually does well, I'll read this one over a very long time with many breaks to pull my beard out. also dual narration is a must with a men's character.... narrator tries but fails for men's voice... sounds like a drunk jock or slow redneck pushing carts at Walmart.

Great Story, very good performance.

great story by Misty Vixen, and a very good performance By Ellory Lane, however the description of the story was not quite correct, yes there are plenty of badass warrior women, but David the MC is pretty Badass himself. Alot of his badassness comes from his character's growth throughout the story though so I guess one could argue that he wasn't initially badass...

Not their best, but Definitely worth the read.

Great idea and story line. Narrator is good, but a little William Shatner ish, but much better than most in this genre.
PLEASE, Misty Vixen --- Take a day and talk with people that know about guns and combat! Not everyone knows everything. Let a combat vet or a redneck hunter critique your writings.
Overall WELL worth the read and the price

Over bearing fe.ales

The series has a lot, and I mean A LOT of sexual encounters. Sadly, it's as if a teenager wrote the scenes, and a guy teenager at that. The story is semi decent except for the horrible survivalist skills, I seriously doubt the author would survive even one day in the setting she's writing about. I bought the complete series and actually made it all the way to book 6 I think until stopping to write this and call it quits.
I get pushy females, it's the main characters fetish and it's post apocalyptic. People have it rough, fighting to survive, etc but when Val is introduced...ugg. Nty. Instant shut down of book. Most of your fan base are guys, not girls. Please don't shove female dominance down our throats. You already had a semi disrespectful survivor with Vanessa, we didn't need a full blown disrespectful female in Val. What makes it worse is how everyone just smiles as she's doing it. These are hardened survivers who all love the main character and allowing him to be used and brow beaten by some random female is just bad writing.

Story, spice, amazing

I started this book cause I saw how long it was. I was thinking well at least I'll have something to listen to, even if it's bad. I was hooked from chapter 1. There were times I was Ted to stop just cause I got a little bored, wish It was dual narrative but still great. The spice is amazing and perfect, the girls the relationships, the way the mc navigates everything is so good. I will admit he does seem quite passive at times, and it just kind of threw me off at times, but then you get used to it. But over great book series and great narration!

What an epic and enticing story

I have seen the suggested images and heard the offhand comments of this classic series since I first stumbled into the genre.

It has earned the accolades that it’s been given.

The story at times is slow and I think that turns people away, what they may be missing is that the world these novels presents is one where the majority of life is never slow, is never calm, is never peaceful. So those moments are meant to represent triumph for the characters we come to know. That and usually the calm before the storm as the trope goes.

Each book after the first two I would say had a focal point that the previous set up, alluded to, or outright made fully apparent. This made it all the more exciting to start the next installment wanting to know how they would handle what they rushed towards, or ran from, next.

I’m sure you’re looking for the spicy info so here it is before I continue: so much. So very much. BUT Misty really knows her pacing as it’s so plain to see that when the going gets tough and the plot is firing left and right, there will be long stretches without the spicy bits that really get us involved in the action and commerce. But wow do the spicy scenes have variety and bombastic voice acting all around. I can’t go into a heck of a lot of detail about characters involved without spoilers.

Now back to the previous point
I said the novels after the first two, I said this because the first two absolutely knock it out of the park with world building, character appearance and build up, rising issues, and the very real sense of despair surrounding these novels. Our MC and his driving force being the beacon of light against that darkness, but not just himself, no, this MC does not lone wolf, the good that comes to these lands happens from community. That all gets its foundation in the beginning. Wow is it important and wow was it a gamble to put off the super high adventure and strain plots until after so much excellent set up.

Now, characterization. Holy moly, even with all the spicy goodness these characters do not become one dimensional dolls to be used. We dive into backstories, we see trauma and healing, we see psychological transformations. Even the MC by the final novels has to stop and look inside himself for the changes that his new routines have created. Some not entirely positive. It’s so great in a series like this to see that there wasn’t just suddenly an emerald city where everything was okay and all the deus ex Machina necessary was found. No, every inch was struggled for and it made it more rewarding.

What else can I say. This series rocked.

I wasn’t paid, or gifted these novels, I purchased them via audible on Amazon and have given this review of my own volition.

Premise is great, execution less so

The idea of a post apocalyptic urban fantasy harem is amazing. But the dialogue and writing in the sex scenes leaves a lot to be desired. The narrator also can’t settle on an accent for some characters and tries too hard to have an obviously fake gruff masculine voice for the main character.
