Publisher's summary

The world as we knew it is gone. Food and water are poison. Learn the new rules or die trying.

Eli "Nacho" Naches is a fearsome assassin who has lost everything in a post-apocalyptic world full of monstrous creatures. He knows where he fits in this horror show, and he’s only been hanging around to see what’s going to be thrown at him next. When he’s finally put in chains and sent to the chopping block, he goes readily...only to be unexpectedly sent back in time to his younger body with his memories intact and the chance to make a difference.

But Nacho isn’t interested in saving the world. He just needs to save the people who matter to him and give them a chance to survive in a world where everything but the air itself is poison. Knowing that all their lives are on the line, Nacho the battle-scarred killer needs to get his college-age friends to listen to him, plan their builds, and secure a safe location to bunker down. Obviously, each of those goals is an epic quest all on its own.

Welcome to the Juxtaposition. May your future be delicious.

Good but Not My Favorite Dakota Krout Book

Dakota Krout is one of my favorite authors. The narrator does a good job on this one but I think Luke Daniel’s might have done a better job accentuating some of the more comedic elements of the story.

Overall, this book reads a bit too much like a fairly conventional post apocalypse Litrpg story than I prefer... however I’ve never seen the main character as a cook class and the MCs perk also helps keep the story fresh.

I’m hoping we see more evolution in the MCs cooking class in the next two books so the story can stand out more from the more conventional Litrpg mechanics that are generally starting to get a bit dull.

That being said, the main characters are likable and there’s a good dash of humor and puns that have kept it enjoyable so far. I’d say this is also great for young readers as it keeps the language toned down more than adult focused apocalypse stories (yes, I’m talking about you Dungeon Crawler Carl). I think I’d give 4.5 stars if it were an option.

If you’re new to Dakota Krout consider checking out his very entertaining Divine Dungeon series first. The Competionist Chronicles and Full Murder Hobo series are also very entertaining.

Good OP MC fun!

I liked the puns and the emphasis on non-violent skills mattering even (especially) in an apocalypse.

A great value version of Dungeon Crawler Carl

It could be a Kirkland version, but the narrator tries too hard to imitate Jeff Hayes when doing the system announcements and it just falls very flat. The story is pretty good but I could do with about half as many food puns. The author has the food puns dialed up to 11. I could use about a five.

The story is entertaining and the books serve as a good thing to kill time while you're waiting for your next book to drop in your favorite series

Another Masterpiece

Honestly at first I was a fit off put that I thought this would mostly be about cooking. There is that but in a way I would of never imagined. This book is truly amazing. Dakota never ceases to amaze or wonder. 100/10.

It was delicious

Dakota strikes again. This was a treat for the ears on Audible and made me hungry more than a few times. The way this world has opened up in the first book has me ready for the second installment. Way to cook up a hit.
