Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon returns with the newest novel in the epic Outlander series.

The past may seem the safest place to be...but it is the most dangerous time to be alive....

Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1746, and it took them 20 years to find each other again. Now the American Revolution threatens to do the same.

It is 1779, and Claire and Jamie are at last reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband, Roger, and their children on Fraser’s Ridge. Having the family together is a dream the Frasers had thought impossible.

Yet, even in the North Carolina backcountry, the effects of war are being felt. Tensions in the Colonies are great, and local feelings run hot enough to boil Hell’s teakettle. Jamie knows loyalties among his tenants are split, and it won’t be long until the war is on his doorstep.

Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the 20th century might catch up to them. Sometimes, they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s - among them disease, starvation, and an impending war - was indeed the safer choice for their family.

Not so far away, young William Ransom is still coming to terms with the discovery of his true father’s identity - and thus his own - and Lord John Grey has reconciliations to make, and dangers to meet...on his son’s behalf and his own.

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser’s Ridge. And with the family finally together, Jamie and Claire have more at stake than ever before.

Thank you!

I have been eagerly waiting for the book I preordered the first day it was possible. In the meantime, I listened again to the last few chapters of A Breath of Snow and Ashes. I check shortly after midnight but it finally dropped in at 2:30 AM. The first two chapters immediately closed the gap and reassured me I was back in Fraser’s Ridge with my friends.

Outlander FINALE…

I’m only a few chapters in but as Outlander fan who has been through the entire series a few dozen times now, I cannot even express how excited I am! I’ll leave a real review once I finish.

What a wonderful pair!

Davina Porter, oh you my friend are amazing. I am so excited to hear your voice again in this most recent addition of the Outlander Series. The book, per the standard of Diana Gabaldon is well written, well researched, and entertaining. I laughed and cried with the characters and oh my it was such a fun trip. The title is foreshadowing and really made the suspense greater, brava!

This book, like all of her others is so fantastic, but the cliffhangers!! I only want more of this universe, I want to know more and hear more and know what happens next. Well done Diana! Your books are capturing and riveting.

I do have a couple complaints, there were some odd sounds in the recording and the voice went from soft to super abrupt multiple times. The pronunciation of things changed, I was super confused when Germain was spoken about for the first time. Sometimes Fanny's voice had a lisp and others she did not, then some of the timeline things were odd. Specifically Ezekiel Richardson, and his timeline and the interactions he had with William and Brianna. The book left some weird questionable spaces that have never occurred before in the universe. Which I understand it is unfair to expect perfection, which I am not but these are really distracting things that stand out. And I really did miss the Author's Note at the end, it really does help with clarification and artistic choices.

Long time coming.....

So very glad to continue with my Scottish friends at 3 am today!
Re-read the first book (Outlander) last week and last parts of Written...... to refresh the memory. Many thanks to Dianna G. for this continutation of my adopted family! So anxious to learn what wonders are in store for the Fraser's and McKenzies. No doubt this will be another treasure from DG.

Omg one of the best books of the series

Diana didn’t disappoint, what a great book! It was worth the wait. Cannot wait to see how the relationship between William and the rest of his new family develops. And I hope he doesn’t end up with Amarantha.

It’s a cliffhanger

Big fan of the series. That being said, I was sorely disappointed it ended the way it did. Will have to wait several years to know what happens next. If you waited this long, you might as well wait a few more year and binge read/listen both books.

Loved it!

You can’t beat Davina Porter. I still don’t know how she does so many voices and makes them all sound so real! Diana wrote another masterpiece. A little slow starting compared to her other books but there was a lot to catch up on from the last book. Can’t wait until the next one! I will probably listen to this one again!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!

Dr. Gabaldon you are worse than black Jack Randall!

How could you end the book on the very moment I have been (impatiently) waiting for for YEARS?!!!

And now you're telling me that I have another decade before finding out what happened? That is worse than what Randall did to Jamie in that prison!

She delivered!

I’ve been waiting for this book and Mrs. G did not disappoint. I can understand why it took so long to write.
