Story
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

In the more shadowy corners of the world, frequented by angels and demons and everything in between, Laytham Ballard is a legend. It's said he raised the dead at the age of 10, stole the Philosopher's Stone in Vegas back in 1999, and survived the bloodsucking kiss of the Mosquito Queen. Wise in the hidden ways of the night, he's also a cynical bastard who stopped thinking of himself as the good guy a long time ago.

The cozy little town of Pine Deep buried the horrors of its past a long time ago. Thirty years have gone by since the darkness descended and the Black Harvest began, a time when a serial killer sheared a bloody swath through the quiet Pennsylvania village. The evil that once coursed through Pine Deep has been replaced by cheerful tourists getting ready to enjoy the country’s largest Halloween celebration in what is now called “The Spookiest Town in America.”

If you've never read a Repairman Jack novel, this is the place to begin. It's 1990. A twenty-one-year-old named Jack has dropped out of college, leaving his old life behind to build a new one in New York City. Manhattan's rough edges are jagged enough to shred any unwary newcomer, but perhaps not one who is determined to stay off the grid, at any cost, in the busiest metropolis on earth. And to do so, he'll have to take jobs of a less than legal nature.

My name's Quinn. If you buy into my reputation, I'm the most notorious demon hunter in New England. But rumors of my badassery have been slightly exaggerated. Instead of having kung-fu skills and a closet full of medieval weapons, I'm an ex-junkie with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time. Or the right place at the wrong time. Or…whatever. Wanted for crimes against inhumanity I (mostly) didn't commit, I was nearly a midnight snack for a werewolf until I was "saved" by a vampire calling itself the Bride of Quiet.

A MUCH MORE COMPLETE NOVEL, PER KING
YOU NEVER SEE ALL THAT YOU SEE.
If I was to grade the last three hours, I would give this book five stars. I could, honestly only go three stars for story, as I am a bit anal about structure, plot and a sense of what is being accomplished. If this had been any other author I would have quit early into the book. There are a lot of people who are not as anal as I am and they love this book and this series. KIA, leads you to accept and not ask to many questions, and that is what is necessary with this book. Towards the end the book does come together and I especially like the characters.
MIGHT AS WELL DRINK THE OCEAN WITH A SPOON AS ARGUE WITH A LOVER
Book one is a weird western and has little structure. King admitted that in the Introduction of the first recording of that book, which is no longer included. In the afterword of this book he mentions this again and says this is a MUCH MORE COMPLETE NOVEL and he gives clues as to where this series will go. Those who worship at the alter of King crushed me with their unhelpful votes, because I said the same thing. If you don't believe me listen to King himself. I love King, he is my second favorite author behind Orson Scott Card. This book and series is a little different, as King occasionally writes in different styles. I am starting to be a convert to this series and will go on to THE WASTELANDS.
IF YOU THINK YOU'VE GONE INSANE, YOUR NUTS
Frank Muller may take some time to get used to for some, but I have always loved him. His voice is different, but I don't believe it is Radio Disc Jockey Fake. I believe this is how he spoke.

Slow story to a crawl
I bought this book because of the good rating, but this book is not for me. I skipped the first book on the advise that the second book is better; I can't imagine how dragging the first book is.
The story line is interesting that's why I stuck to the end, but it could have been compressed in just a few hours. There was more yakking than plot development.

The content of this book is more enjoyable than the first. But, the narration is irritating. Muller puts a growl in his voice that doesn't add anything to the story. I'm looking forward to book 3.

Not overly impressed
Let's start with the reader. Not everything has to end in a dramatic inflection. Roland bowels is not dramatic.
The story is contrived and designed for a Hollywood movie and he characters are extreme versions of real life. Detta walker fixates on gray meat little white candles every other thought and in a as trashy and cliched way as possible. Eddie is the quintessential New York persona. If the characters had been toned down a little and a little left to the imagination the story could have been made darker and more suspenseful. Instead you just find everyone annoying.
I'm not sure if I can get through the next book...
I may try

The story was a little thin, but the narration!!!
If you could sum up The Drawing of the Three in three words, what would they be?
A bit cliched.
If you’ve listened to books by Stephen King before, how does this one compare?
Compared to the first book, this was a little thin on the story.
What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?
Great narrator. Knew how to act, knew when to read, versus when to give a performance. His many voices make this work really well, though the story made me a little weary.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.
Any additional comments?
Frank Muller was made for this sort of work. Sad that he was taken in such a tragic way.

Whew. Thank God
I love audible and enjoy most of Stephey Kings novels. This was tortuous. Could not finish and will request a refund.

A good entry
I enjoyed the story. It got a bit dull with the walking along the beach segments, but beyond that it's still a good quasifantasy epic!

Terrible reader.
I would rather not listen to a Casey Kasem wannabe. Needed the man who read the first book back.
