Publisher's summary

The sixth novel of the galaxy-spanning Sun Eater series merges the best of space opera and epic fantasy, as Hadrian Marlowe continues down a path that can only end in fire.

The end is nigh.

It has been nearly two hundred years since Hadrian Marlowe assaulted the person of the Emperor and walked away from war. From his Empire. His duty. From the will and service of the eldritch being known only as the Quiet. The galaxy lies in the grip of a terrible plague, and worse, the Cielcin have overrun the realms of men.

A messenger has come to Jadd, bearing a summons from the Sollan Emperor for the one-time hero. A summons, a pardon, and a plea. HAPSIS, the Emperor’s secret first-contact intelligence organization, has located one of the dreadful Watchers, the immense, powerful beings worshipped by the Pale Cielcin.

Called out of retirement and exile, the old hero—accompanied by his daughter, Cassandra—must race across the galaxy and against time to accomplish one last, impossible task: To kill a god.

Wow, that went all over the place.

What an incredible story. Really brought many of the plot points from the previous books forward in a meaningful way way.

Sci-fi Masterpiece

Ruocchio has outdone himself with this latest installment of the Sun Eater series. Disquiet Gods is as ambitious as it is masterful in epic storytelling on a galactic scale and beyond the corridors of time itself.

Keeps getting better with each passing book.

After chapter 38, my mind was continuously blown. I have thoughts, but I believe Hadrian will still become emperor, and that he and Celine will rule together. Just a hunch. That’s the hardest path, to me him allowing himself to be excused is another easy pay, like the 200yrs wasted in Jad. Loving another and ruling, is the hardest path.

brilliant storytelling

this series has never disappointed and continues to amaze me. An amazing story, sympathetic characters, the unraveling of an awful, beautiful history that, for all that the setting is alien, is infinitely, often painfully relatable - and at times absurdly, inappropriately funny. I cant wait for the next one!

Another great book

The story continues and did not disappoint. Great addition to the series. My only complaint is that now I have to wait for the next one. Hope it gets done soon, but hope is a cloud.

Oh man. Book 7 is a long ways off.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so bummed to see a book end I’m on the author’s mailing list and with all of his other projects vying for his limited bandwidth, as I type this Book 7 is on the back burner.
Have you ever had an audiobook that you came up with various tasks to do so you could do those tasks while also listening to the book? Every Sun Eater book is that way for me.
Now what do I do? :-)
I hope the new book comes quickly.
Samuel’s voice is velvet and perfectly suited for performing the Sun Eater books. I wish he did more science fiction/fantasy work. All I’ve been able to find is nonfiction.
Dear reader if you’re on the fence about this book and starting it then stop messing around and use up that credit. And pray the next book comes along quickly.

Masterpiece

I have listened now to every book in this series I can get a hold of and it's a masterpiece! What an excellent story, I don't remember another author that made me care for characters so. What an immersive world you have built Christopher. I don't like everything you have done in these stories, but that makes it feel all the more real, as I don't like everything that happens in life. Well done!

Great writer who writes Space Operas

I love this series. From the opening paragraph of book 1 to the last paragraph of Book 6! I love the characters the descriptions the action and structure of this series. This should be as popular as red rising - it is on par if not better written. Amazing.
