It is only at the end of the world - among the glacial mountains, cleaving icebergs, and frigid waters of Antarctica - that Deb Gardner and Keller Sullivan feel at home. For the few blissful weeks they spend each year studying the habits of emperor and Adélie penguins, Deb and Keller can escape the frustrations and sorrows of their separate lives and find solace in their work and in each other. Not long after, she receives an urgent call from her colleague, Dr. Grace McAllister, insisting Rachel come to Antarctica to examine an unusual body with ethereal properties found in an ice cave.
Before Rachel can respond, bandits storm the desert dig site. Just as they are about to seize Rachel, a helicopter appears with Trevor Brookenridge, a handsome polar geophysicist sent by his Aunt Grace to bring Rachel to Antarctica. Sparks fly, but Rachel already has a fiancé. Rachel must decide who she can trust when a group of bioterrorists engaged in secret genetic experiments in an abandoned World War II Nazi base under the Antarctic ice sheet come after the pendant - and her.
For it seems everyone knows a secret Rachel does not, one which will change her life forever.

The permafrost has begun to melt, exposing bodies from a colony that was wiped out by the dreaded Spanish flu of 1918. Frank must determine if the thawed remains still carry the deadly virus in their frozen flesh and, if so, ensure that it doesn't come back to life.

Reading is distracting otherwise great stor
Story is enticing and quickly pulls you into it. Reading. Performance. Utterly. Distracting. The reader staccato performance drove me bananas. I felt. Like. Shaking. Him. Most.... of the time. That's how he reads it. Annoying and distracting. But if you get past it (I struggled) the story is very interesting and exciting. Willing to look for other books by her, hopefully with better reading performance.

Drama, romance, Sci-fi.
A touch of chivalry, a touch of romance, a touch of drama and lots of science fiction.
A well done story with mixes of the spirit of Antarctican exploration and Sci-fi fantasy.
And being a Rhode Islander myself, appreciated the background references of the characters and their RI roots.
