What a marvelous listen!

I can not express my feelings and emotions while listening to this book. The author has written a very engaging roller coaster ride, expanding on the life of Ranger Mortensen. This book easily works back and forth through time, years, and at times days, using a lot of Mortensen's own words. It is a gripping, "can't put it down" book. The narration was also spectacular, adding to the joy of listening to the true story. I highly recommend it to all!

Worth every minute!

I am so glad I bought this book- it was an incredible true story about a dedicated (and somewhat flawed) Seasonal Park Ranger in the High Sierras. It was well written and presented the very human face of a person who felt closest to nature more than people. I loved every minute. Well done, excellent performance and sensitive to the truth from all angles.

Biography of backcountry ranger

Interesting story, but I agree with others who say too long. After visiting several national parks, I agree with Morgenson that these treasures must be preserved.

Great Narrative

This book is a soulful read. Kind of like Zen and the Art of motorcycle maintenance but with a view of the path of a uniquely different human. Enjoy it.

Hard to stop listening!

True story. You’ll get wrapped up in the mystery. You’ll also want to take a trip to Yosemite and King’s Canyon.

The Last Season

I enjoyed listening to this story, not only for the beautiful descriptions of nature but for the very technical explanation of Search and Rescue protocol. I had not idea what it took to deploy a manhunt. I'm saddened by this story but also I feel more inspired to celebrate my life outdoors.

Great story

While it is true that the author went into a whole lot of detail, in my opinion it was necessary to understand who the main character was. being an outdoor lover myself, I would listen to this book again.

Enjoyed???

One wish I have after probably 1000+ audible listens is that after a historical account of an event deeply disturbing, I would not be accosted with the inquiry as to whether I found this listen “enjoyable “. Thought-provoking, growth-demanding, angst-provoking, and overall arresting, YES! But enjoyable???? As if that is the only texture that we should be seeking in our lives. Please modify this superficial means of assessment!
