Publisher's summary

The storm. The man. Both come without warning.

My heart opens to Cooper Haywood the moment we meet. How can it resist? He's charming, devastatingly handsome, and sweeps me off my feet before I realize the impact he's making. And then it's too late.

We fall too fast to worry about the consequences. We love so hard that we ache when we're apart. Even though I have a past that still haunts me and he has a future that could put us at risk, none of that matters when we're together.

Until it does. And then everything changes.

Although the best thing he ever gave me now calls me Mommy, I can't help but wonder if Cooper Haywood and that fateful storm were one and the same.

Couldn’t put it down

Love, loss, heartbreak and reunion, this story has it all. Through everything, these two never what can’t be lost, their love.
Good narration. Mr. Dexter has a voice that suits some characters better than others. This wasn’t my favorite for him but still good.
Cover art, everything, everything.

👏 AMAZING 👏

it was such a great story with a true but sad storyline with wealth, family control, but a strong love story if your willing to fight be open minded and open hearted by passing all the hate and ugly in a world

It was romance, it had plot

This was well written and had a story (well, literally). The chemistry between the characters, the struggle they both went through, the heartache. I was here for it. It wasn’t just raunchy sex after the other. Though it had that and was tastefully written and not pure smut.
The narration wasn’t bad either. Would recommend.

Powerful Love Story!

The first line sets the tone and foreshadows the story..."They came without warning - the storm and the man. One day, I'll look back and realize they were one and the same."
Story Salenger is a senior in college and works at The Bean There coffee shop to pay the bills. Her background is a sad one, with an abusive stepfather who killed her mother. She has the eye of an artist and finds beauty around her. When she met Cooper, she found what made her happy and felt they were meant to be. Their happy ending wouldn't come for six years, if at all. Cooper Reed Haywood was, indeed, a storm. He was born into great wealth and his name carried with it a legacy of power. He didn't know love, except for the love from Patrice Keller, his nanny when he was a boy. His parents were more concerned with the social standing the name Haywood brought with it, whereas to Cooper, it was an albatross around his neck. He wanted to live his life his own way. He was an angry and troubled teen, prone to getting into trouble that, one day, he wouldn't be able to escape and would upend his life. Cooper and Story fell fast and hard, deeply in love and looking at a future together, but his family stepped in with a contract to sign.
The Best I Ever Had is a book filled with emotions so strong that the love and tears bleed out onto the page. This is what romance should be!
The narration is beautifully done by Ava Erickson and Stephen Dexter. Their voices blend perfectly as a duo and, individually, their male and female voices are distinct and authentic.

Rollercoaster & Tissues!

So fair warning, if you are wanting a story that isn't very slow pace then yes this one won't be for you. This story does have a very slow build. As in, there were several times just in Part 1 I nearly stopped and didn't give the full story a chance. Most books I'm begging for more to the story, more build up before the break down, even in HEA. Yet when I got it with Cooper and Story, I wanted to rip my hair out because of agonizingly slow that build up was.

Now with that out of the way, I LOVE Cooper and Story. This love story felt like one I could relate to in a real world setting than most I listen to. It was such a nice reprieve from most of what I listen to. My heart ached so much for Cooper and tissues man you are going to need the tissues in Parts 2 & 3! Best I Ever Had is like a rollercoaster, once you get to the top from that slow build beginning, your heart breaks more times than it's healed, well that's until near the end.

Gah I just, I can't help it. This is the first S.L Scott book in which I said out loud "Ok S.L Scott, I see you, I hear you and I've got the tissues". The only complaint I have is Stephen Dexter, I'm sure he is an amazing narrator, he just isn't my cup of tea for narration. However, I never let that detour me from a book and I'm so glad, because this was so worth the Reed(if you read/listen to the book, you'll totally get that reference!). So for those who are like "OH EM GEE, can we skip to the good part?!" Give this a chance, a good fighting chance, even if it means taking more pauses than normal, in my humble opinion it's worth it!

So so….

Young adult for the first half……male narrator’s voice of heroine character sounds weak. But female narrator did great. I was going to quit half way through but they fast forward to 6 years later and it move on quickly after that. Spoiler: Don’t really care for rich guy’s parent being both a-holes and hero sacrificing for heroine because of a stupid thing that happened in the past. That’s the point where I wanted to stop listening. But I don’t really care for this book. Not my cup of tea.
