Publisher's summary

From the number one best-selling author of Turtles All the Way Down and The Fault in Our Stars

Michael L. Printz Honor Book
Los Angeles Times Book Prize Finalist
New York Times best seller

When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton’s type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has $10,000 in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun - but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.

Critic reviews

"Fully fun, challengingly complex, and entirely entertaining." (Kirkus starred review)

"Laugh-out-loud funny...a coming-of-age American road trip that is at once a satire of and tribute to its many celebrated predecessors." (Horn Book starred review)

"Imagine an operating room at the start of a daring but well-rehearsed procedure and you will have something of the atmosphere of An Abundance of Katherines: every detail considered, the action unrolling with grace and inevitability." (New York Times Book Review)

Honestly pretty meh

I can’t say this is worth reading. Over all kinda bland no crazy twists or heart wrenching moments.

The humor

I love how this book balances the humor and plot, the fact that it’s not like other teen comedy books is a nice touch

funny and a great find

This book sucks you in from the start. It reminds you of every geeky math nerd you knew and loved or hated, and that little bit of aspergers that lives in most of us.

Good, yet unfulfilling

Yes, this book is clever, has romance, and is funny. Yet, it lacks in depth in all of these facets. This book has little of everything, but it did not explore any of these themes enough to take something away from. That being said, this book is a perfect illustration of the troubles that arise when you anchor yourself to a specific identity.

Great story

I started reading this book several years ago in a hard copy and couldn’t get into it. The narrator was so captivating it wasn’t hard to get through this book now in less than a week. Such a great story with several different characters and voices. Has it’s funny moments that actually had me laughing out loud. Such a good unexpected love story.

Fun and irreverent

Great portrayal of awkward adolescence! I love the banter, the jokes, the characterization, and the overall moral of the story. Relatable on many levels.

A Rolling Ride with Theorems and Heartbreak

Colin has loved 19 girls, all named Katherine. They all have dumped him. Seeking to assuage his pain, he and his friend Hassan (sorry if I misheard the name) go on a road trip to find themselves. They achieve their goals in a small Tennessee community whose only industry is a factory that makes tampon strings. The young men are employed by the factory owner to interview all the former employees of the factory. Eccentric but endearing characters help the boys put their lives in perspective.
