Story
Great White sharks lurk off popular beaches – killer crocodiles and man-eating pythons prowl the Everglades. But for Abigail O'Neil, raised on the swamp, the most terrifying monster was her own father – a black-market croc-farmer notorious for feeding unwary victims to his jagged-toothed pets. Growing-up privy to unspeakable horror, when Abigail finally fled home, she thought she'd left it all behind. But now someone is stalking her – and they know all her deepest, darkest secrets.

Story
When two marines and their corpsman reunite after a decade apart, they find themselves caught up in the mystery of their former squad leader’s disappearance. With little more to go on than a handful of disturbing charcoal sketches and the whispers of a local legend, they plunge into the depths of one of America’s last truly wild places. But the trees themselves begin to whisper dark secrets. Secrets of trafficking and violence. Of rotten science and blood. Of something else that lurks in the shadows of the pines—something ancient, savage, and hungry.

Story
It had been a rough five years for Memphis Police Officer Jake Jessup. Blaming himself for the death of two partners, a divorce, and almost losing his job, the three-day canoe and kayak trip in the Ozarks sounded like the perfect way to reconnect with family and friends, and to put old demons to rest. What he found instead were a new set of demons, only these were real...and deadly. A float turns tragic for a group of boaters when a secret military project escapes into the Ozark Mountains of West Arkansas.

Deputy Thomas Rodney is no stranger to tense situations. Having served multiple tours in the worst of environments, facing death had practically become just another day at the office. But nothing could have prepared him for this. In a woodland county in the Pacific Northwest, a sinister presence has awakened. A roadwork crew has disappeared without a trace; a truck is found run off the road; a lakefront property is mysteriously vacant, its roof damaged as though something large descended from high above; and an eerie quiet has overtaken the countryside.

Story
On the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia, a rural community, some distance from the state’s capital city, a local snake catcher and school teacher find a reptile they assume is just another feral species. However, this one is different. Its bite causes flesh to rot off the bones of their victim. Second, it grows fast. Way too fast. Third, there’s more than one. Lastly, it is not a mere snake. It is the immature form of something much larger, much more dangerous, and mythical, and it falls on this duo to try to stop these creatures before they reach maturity.

Action for days.
What I like in Age of Monsters was the insane amount of action sequences. The ensuing chaos the creatures caused, whenever they are destroying cities or killing each other, made for very intense scenes that I am glad are only fiction. Needless to say, I was very entertained.
Other elements I liked was the some of the characters, the chemistry between Rosa and Lucas was cute, and the scenes with Jonah, Naomi, and the hippie couple were funny. Lastly, I liked the lore involving Monster Island. It makes curious as what the mystery is with the island and the residential Professor Hinkle.
What I do not like about the book were a few grammatical and punctual errors, such as when the title chapter 28 was unbolded, or when ‘Troodon’ was spelled as ‘Toodon’. The biggest problem is that it is outside the norm of paleontology and how we associate dinosaurs today. If an actual paleontologist read this, they will most likely have a heart attack.
Regardless, I was really entertained with Age of Monsters, and I am curious as to what else the other books in this series have in store.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
