What if Jefferson Davis became President of a pro-slavery Union, while Abraham Lincoln must decide whether to fight for a new birth of freedom outside it? In this alternate history, there will be no secession of the South. But what about the anti-slavery men in the North? There's rough around the edges and then there's Talia, who will gut any man who dares flirt with her. But when you're captain of a band of skallywag sky-pirates, that level of salty is expected. The twins she rescues, who bring the wind and thunder, along with peace and wonder, are catalysts for more change than Talia ever expects. Change would be easier if her first mate, Murtagh, would stop looking at her the way he does, or smelling like that whenever she stands close.

Story
While J. Robert Oppenheimer and his Manhattan Project team struggle to develop the A-bomb, Edward Teller wants something even more devastating: a weapon based on nuclear fusion - the mechanism that powers the sun. But Teller’s research leads to a terrifying discovery: by the year 2030, the sun will eject its outermost layer, destroying the entire inner solar system - including Earth. After the war ends, Oppenheimer’s physicists combine forces with Albert Einstein, computing pioneer John von Neumann, and rocket designer Wernher von Braun.

He has succeeded in telling the unclassified story of the journey taken by an extraordinary group of men who built the first operational “Super Nuke” and effectively shared what they developed with others in the entire US nuclear submarine force. Brutal Start
I really had to power through the beginning of this book. The beginning was brutal. I almost was going to return the audio book but then it slowly started to get better. In the end it was ok. It had the potential to be a lot better but I'm glad I listened to the whole story.

Best book I’ve read in a long time. As good as one of my all time favorites, Charm School by Nelson DeMille.
This is an amazing book, love the topic, love the characters, I think all Americans should read this book. The virtual voice needs a lot of work. Somebody didn’t program this AI to know how to pronounce plurals or possessives, so instead of Japan’s, it pronounces as Japan-es, instead of Moe’s it pronounces Moe-es. Virtual voice has a long way to go to sound like a real live human with voice inflections, emphasis on appropriate words, pauses at appropriate times and even pronunciation of certain words and places. Kadena is supposed to be Ka-deen-a, not Ka-den-ah. I would love to hear this book narrated by one of our very accomplished HUMAN narrators.
