内容紹介
ある日の夕方、小林少年は白ひげの老人に誘われて「のぞきカラクリ」という不思議な箱を覗き込んだ。
その箱の中には森の中に鉄の城がそびえ立つ、不思議な光景が広がっていた。
そこへ大きなカブトムシが現れて城の鉄塔に登り始めたのだ。
背中には不気味な髑髏のマーク。
驚いて箱から目を離すと白ひげの老人は、
「この景色を覚えておくんだよ、小林君」
と言ってどこかへ去っていってしまった。
それから数日後、とても恐ろしい事件が起こった。
真夜中の銀座の町中に人の大きさほどのカブトムシが現れたのだ。
背中にはあの時と同じ髑髏のマーク。
警察が拳銃を発砲するも、その黒光りする背中に弾かれてビクともしない。
カブトムシは町を徘徊し、忽然と姿を消した。
そんな騒ぎから二週間後、鉄工会社を経営する高橋家に奇妙な客人がやってきた。
村瀬と名乗った人物は高橋氏に「金か子供を差し出せ」と脅してきたのだ。
両方断ると村瀬はあの巨大なカブトムシを使って、子供の賢二少年を誘拐しようとする。
高橋氏は明智探偵に助けを求めて使いの者を行かせるが、犯人に先回りされ落とし穴に落とされてしまう。
その落とし穴の中には小林少年の姿が!
その隙に明智探偵に変装した犯人に賢二少年が誘拐されてしまった。
小林少年たちは落とし穴から抜け出し、賢二少年を助けることが出来るのか? 犯人の真の目的とは何なのか?
誰も知らない深き森の奥で、鉄塔王国の扉が音を立てて開き始める。
