Debut author Chandra Blumberg has delighted listeners with not one but two romances this year in her Taste of Love series. The first-time author describes realizing her dreams, balancing those dreams against the demands of a large family, and gives us a taste of her next novel. (Warning: Proceed with a snack on hand!)

Audible: Your debut novel, Digging Up Love came out earlier this year. And now, listeners can enjoy the delicious second book in your Taste of Love series, Stirring Up Love. What’s it been like having not one but two books come out in your debut year?

Chandra Blumberg: It’s been a whirlwind in the best possible way. To go from imagining life as an author to now having two novels out in the world is a surreal experience. Ever since I can remember, my desire has been to bring people joy and hope through my stories. Both books in the Taste of Love series center around boldly chasing your dreams, so to be achieving my own in such a tangible way is a phenomenal feeling.

Not only are you an author, you’re also a mom to four! What’s the recipe you use for balancing the demands of parenthood against the demands of being an author?

I think the main ingredient is flexibility. If writer/mom life were a dinner, it would be a dish made with pantry staples and whatever was on hand in the refrigerator—for me, it’s all about adapting and making the most of every moment. There’s a lot to juggle, but I’m grateful beyond words for both my family and my writing career.

Since I work best in the morning, I front-load my schedule whenever possible. I’ve also learned to utilize small pockets of time. My mindset is to remember there’s no such thing as perfection—whatever I’m able to achieve in a day is meaningful, no matter how small. I hope to show my kids by example that it’s possible to take the leap and pursue whatever career brings them joy.

Your audiobooks should come with a warning—don’t listen while hungry! What’s your go-to writing snack?

I love to write first thing in the morning when it’s quiet, and those writing sessions are often fueled by a bagel with almond butter. In the afternoon, I reach for cheese and crackers or veggies with hummus. And iced coffee, no matter the weather.

What food pairs best with your current work in progress?

Any meal that tastes even better the next day, like homemade chili, would be a great complement for my current work in progress, because I’m writing a second-chance romance layered with remembered connection and reawakened love.
