Jamie Lee Curtis Produces and Performs Original Scripted Family Podcast

Audible today announced a new scripted Audible Original, Letters from Camp, produced and performed by Golden Globe award-winning actress and #1 bestselling author Jamie Lee Curtis. Sunny Sandler (Grown Ups, Hotel Transylvania) joins Curtis in leading a star-studded cast of actors in this episodic scripted family podcast, releasing in August 2020. Letters from Camp is a comedic, heartfelt mystery aimed at middle grade listeners and their parents. Written by Boco Haft (Family Guy), Letters from Camp is produced by Curtis alongside Russell Goldman (Halloween, Halloween Kills). The acting cast also includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Edi Patterson (Knives Out, Righteous Gemstones), and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Barry, The Good Place).

Letters from Camp introduces Mookie Hooper. Mookie is a square peg in a round hole. Or to be more precise, she’s an NBC Dateline-obsessed, fun-fact toting, fanny-pack-wearing eleven-year-old peg in a sixth-grade conformist hole. With a world-renowned reporter mother, Mookie is eager to prove she can follow in the family mold as an investigative journalist. So when Mookie learns about the mysterious case of a girl who went missing from Camp Cartwright, she becomes determined to uncover the legend of the “Lady of the Lake”. Told through weekly letters written from sleepaway camp to an unknown figure, Mookie’s summer in Maine is a laugh-out-loud funny, earnest coming-of-age story wrapped up in a suspenseful mystery.

“In my years as a children’s book author, and through my film roles, I’ve formed an eye for what works with kids: genuine, funny, relatable characters,” said Jamie Lee Curtis. “Now I’m using my ear for children’s entertainment as I turn my attention toward the immersive, emerging, audio format. Mookie is Harriet the Spy meets Kayla from Eighth Grade, and I’m confident kids will adore her.”

“Jamie Lee Curtis has been keeping us entertained for decades,” said Rachel Ghiazza, Executive Vice President, Head of US Content at Audible. “Families coming to Audible for fun, humorous, screen-free entertainment will find themselves returning again and again to Letters from Camp. This dynamic show transports listeners to a beloved place that some families may be missing this summer: sleepaway camp.”
